And that is exactly why I completely understand if he or anyone else says, "Nah, I'll keep it to myself" because the environment right now is that hostile. If he puts out his stuff and it's not the cure-all that we want, there will be a backlash.

That's where we are, as a community. If someone offers help, offers a roster, offers a draft class and it doesn't work for everyone else like it worked for them, they're very likely to get hammered.

Ultimately, it is not up to Dirk or anyone outside 2K to improve the game. That's 2K's job, they actively get paid to do that. The community has been amazing at improving on what they've given us in the past, but I think 2K might have come to rely on the community picking up the slack a bit too much this year ... and as a result, we're all here:

Desperate for a solution to any one of the multitude of problems, looking at those that say they're have a great time with the game and asking them, arms wide, "Where's the proof? Where's your roster? Where's your settings? Why aren't you sharing them?"

We've gotten to the point where we're accusing other members of the community of being untruthful or baseless in their claims, despite no proof one way or another -- even if the majority of us agree that the game has many issues and it's holding all of us back, just because we agree to it doesn't make it necessarily true. Dirk may very well be having the experience he says and that's absolutely possible, because his experience is based on his perception, his mindset, and his own custom settings.

Asking for his sliders/settings/rosters etc, is fine, but the tone this conversation has taken is not conducive to a positive outcome. No one wants to help someone else when others are implying they're being untruthful, especially with the way the community is right now.

The majority of us are having a negative experience with the game and Dirk is having a positive one; these are not mutually exclusive things and both can be true at the same time. Let's not rake someone over the coals for having a different take on things ... that's not what OS is about. We come here to exchange our views and ideas on the things we love.

And we need to bring that back.
I don't want to make this about Dirk, so I'm leaving that aside for a sec.

I just want to point out that people who post sliders and do the other stuff I talked about above do not in fact get attacked. They get respected and thanked, even when their recommendations don't work out for everyone.

In Dirk's case though you may be right because he has been so visible and consistent with his opinion and dissent from the consensus without sharing his adjustments. That history and dynamic may make it so that even if he were to post some things that were helpful to a lot of people, some would still roast him for not having the perfect secret sauce.

UPDATE: Wanted to add that I have always assumed that Dirk is speaking completely honestly about his experience of the game.

"I still believe he has a much better version than the rest of us"

You decide to beat around the bush I like to speak directly but we both are saying the same thing toward him.

I was joking w/ you man. Relax lol. I've been agreeing from the jump and I actually already discussed it w/ Dirk early in this thread. So I was direct.

Didn't mean to make this thread be about Dirk. While I don't see a lot of stuff he sees. I am glad he's enjoying the game. I don't see him as one of those cape for 2K guys. I believe he's being genuine but most of us just don't see the same things.

LDC/G6

I get it fellas...we are in the same frame of mind regarding the game(as usual)

It's ultimately up to him though. Either way, I respect his experience....just dont want this to become a SD vs. The World thing.

Re: NBA 2K17 Patch 1.05 Coming Soon, Fixes Roster Update Issue, Pro-Am & More

Frequenting the sliders and roster forum, I rarely ever see people get berated for their work at trying to help the community.

I don't know what has happened to the atmosphere here, so Trekfan, I completely agree with what you're saying in that aspect.

I just want everyone to help everyone in a constructive manner. Even if we don't get the desired results from the sliders and rosters Dirk is using, there's more than a few of us in here that would work with him, that would collaborate with the community to get something great going.

Tons of guys are already doing that in the slider and roster sections, and I see the praise they get and the help they get for at least trying.

Maybe I'm naive to think everyone could rally together, end the negativity and really get back to what OS is about. Being a helpful community.

I think that's what we all want. It's what makes OS great. That's why we're the standard for this kind of thing.
