NBA 2k16 MyLeague: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Whats up guys. Most of you know me from the draft classes and the fictional league me and the other SimWorld crew put together but I also try to make one of these threads for 2k every year the game is released. We know that MyLeague is a mode that the casual fan has little interest in, but those of us that do play it are pretty obsessive about it. So once again, I decided to spend more first night with the game analyzing the mode and sharing my findings with all of you.
Statistics
Heres an area that many people have been frustrated with for years. In my opinion, the two biggest areas over the past few years have been rebounds and blocks. More recently, rebounding stats have seen an improvement but blocks have continued to be a statistic that has not mimicked what we generally see in real life. Hmmmm, so this isnt bad at all. For those of us that wondered if they would fix the blocks stats, the simple answer is yes. It also looks as if they decreased the steals as well since last year Ive seen players average as much as 3.3 steals a year. One of the issues I had last year still appears to be present however. The generated rookies are often given above average scoring ratings but below average tendencies which leads to the generated players not scoring a high amount of points. The highest that I saw out of four computer generated drafts was 18.1 points. I suppose thats not too terrible but you would think that in four years at least one of those players would score 20 or more right? Well, thats why people like me make draft classes. Overall, I am pretty impressed with the changes that they made to the statistics.
Standings/Awards
Ive never had a huge problem with the way that awards played out but I know a lot of people are always interested to see what the game predicts. Once again, lets look at the awards and some of the standings following year 1 and year 5.
2015 2016 MVP Kevin Durant
Rookie of the Year Emmanuel Mudiay
Sixth Man Nikola Mirotic
DPOY Anthony Davis
Most Improved Lavoy Allen
Coach of the Year David Blatt
Top Five Teams
Cavs 68 14
Thunder 59 23
Clippers 55 27
Spurs 53 - 29
Bulls 53 29
Bottom Five
Wizards 21 61
Nuggets 21 61
Knicks 25 57
Hornets 27 55
Nets 29 - 53
NBA Championship
Pelicans over the Bulls (4 to 1)
Lottery
Most of you that read the MyLeague blog know that they improved the lottery. Overall, it is definitely a visual improvement and I like the reporter coming in with extra news about the teams but nothing worth spending a ton of time talking about.
Mock Draft
Ya know, I probably should have talked about this earlier since the mock draft was available during the season but better late than never. I read somewhere that the game makes it possible for draft busts and gems. My assumption was that the game would move away from previous years where you could pretty much get away with drafting solely based off where players where ranked on the Big Board. In an effort to test this, I quickly edited a draft class to make these players:
PlayerA Overall: 73, Potential: 75, Peak Start: Age 25, Peak End: Age 28
PlayerB Overall: 70, Potential: 77, Peak Start: Age 25, Peak End: Age 29
PlayerC Overall: 70, Potential: 71, Peak Start: Age 22, Peak End: Age 30
PlayerD Overall: 76, Potential: 78, Peak Start: Age 23, Peak End: Age 27
PlayerE Overall: 69, Potential: 76, Peak Start: Age 25, Peak End: Age 28
PlayerF Overall: 73, Potential: 85, Peak Start: Age 26, Peak End: Age 29
PlayerG Overall: 68, Potential: 74, Peak Start: Age 24, Peak End: Age 26
PlayerH Overall: 65, Potential: 78, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 32
PlayerI Overall: 75, Potential: 80, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 32
PlayerJ Overall: 75, Potential: 83, Peak Start: Age 24, Peak End: Age 29
PlayerK Overall: 73, Potential: 75, Peak Start: Age 25, Peak End: Age 28

PlayerM Overall: 70, Potential: 75, Peak Start: Age 24, Peak End: Age 29
PlayerN Overall: 72, Potential: 73, Peak Start: Age 24, Peak End: Age 31
Heres how the players were ranked in the mock draft:

PlayerE Overall: 69, Potential: 76, Peak Start: Age 25, Peak End: Age 28 RANKED #11 IN MOCK DRAFT
PlayerL Overall: 64, Potential: 88, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 29 RANKED #12 IN MOCK DRAFT
PlayerG Overall: 68, Potential: 74, Peak Start: Age 24, Peak End: Age 26 RANKED #25 IN MOCK DRAFT
PlayerH Overall: 65, Potential: 78, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 32 RANKED #47 IN MOCK DRAFT
Note: After my editing all of the computer generated players in the draft were under a 70 overall and no player was over a 70 potential.

PlayerH Overall: 65, Potential: 78, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 32 Drafted #36
Interesting to see how the draft went. I have a lot of thoughts about this but its so late so I will let you guys discuss until I get off of work in the morning. Anything stand out to you?
How does Peak Start and Peak End Work
So as most of you know 2K has implemented the option to determine when a player peaks and when he starts to decline. I decided to take four of the players above and follow them throughout a portion of their careers to see how they progress with all of the sliders set at 50.
PlayerB Overall: 70, Potential: 77, Peak Start: Age 25, Peak End: Age 29
Year 2: 23 years old - 73 overall
Year 3: 24 years old - 75 overall
Year 4: 25 years old - 75 overall
Year 5: 26 years old - 76 overall
Year 6: 27 years old - 75 overall
Year 7: 28 years old - 75 overall
PlayerG Overall: 68, Potential: 74, Peak Start: Age 24, Peak End: Age 26
Year 2: 23 years old - 70 overall
Year 3: 24 years old - 71 overall
Year 4: 25 years old - 72 overall
Year 5: 26 years old - 72 overall
Year 6: 27 years old - 70 overall
Year 7: 28 years old - 67 overall
PlayerI Overall: 75, Potential: 80, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 32
Year 2: 21 years old - 79 overall
Year 3: 22 years old - 82 overall
Year 4: 23 years old - 83 overall
Year 5: 24 years old - 84 overall
Year 6: 25 years old - 84 overall
Year 7: 26 years old - 86 overall
PlayerL Overall: 64, Potential: 88, Peak Start: Age 28, Peak End: Age 29
Year 2: 23 years old - 67 overall
Year 3: 24 years old - 70 overall
Year 4: 25 years old - 72 overall
Year 5: 26 years old - 74 overall
Year 6: 27 years old - 77 overall
Year 7: 26 years old - 78 overall
So maybe this is what they meant with they said you can draft a bust or a gem. Things started getting weird when I noticed that Player I was progressing way past that 80 potential. When I went to check his potential rating three years later I noticed that it was 87. Interesting right? So then I go to Player L who was supposed to be the best of all of these guys and his potential rating dropped to an 82. Has anything changed in the first three years? Yes
. apparently Player L had an injury that caused him to miss 72 games. The next year, Player L got a back injury and his potential rating dropped to a 77. Player B had no injuries but his potential rating was one point less (76) than what I initially set it at. Player Gs potential was two points less (72). So what does this mean? Well, apparently injuries do affect potential which is pretty damn cool. It also appears that the CPU slightly alters potential ratings this time around. Ill have to do more test in the near future to see whats up.
Oh, I almost forgot to address what I intended to study during this section. Peak start and peak end appear to be working as intended. Without taking training into consideration, it looks as if your player will reach his potential at the peak start age and start to decline at the peak end age as we saw with player G. Ill test more over the weekend.
Free Agency/CPU Roster Logic
One of the biggest issues with most franchise modes in sports games has got to be how teams go about signing players in free agency. So many things can go wrong from stars being left in free agency when the season begins to the Wizards signing Steph Curry. Instead of going year by year I decided to wait until after year 5 and see if anything stands out. Notes can be found below.
- In 2020, the Sixers still have Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens and Embiid. Their ratings are 88, 82 and 81 respectively.
- PG Player J (who is an 83 overall now) has not been getting many minutes at all due to the fact that Isaiah Thomas is starting for the Celtics (also an 83 overall) and eating up all the minutes at the position. Player J is only getting a little over 20 minutes.
- Chris Paul still an 89 overall at 35 years old.
- The Jazz drafted a small forward named Marshall Holmes with the 2nd pick in 2018 even though they still have Gordon Hayward. The two share the same position and are both an 84 overall and the best players on the team.
- Dennis Schroder (81 overall) signed with the Kings the previous year even with Darren Collison who is an 80 starting at the position. Collisons minutes went from 32.3 to 25.9 a game. Schroder played 26.6 minutes a game.
- The Brooklyn Nets have three point guards on their team that are the second, third and fourth best players on the team. Ricky Rubio (81 overall), Pandazis Dourekas (81 overall) and Zach Lavine (80 overall)
Other than that nothing much stood out other than the fact that their hasnt been much player movement with the big name players with the sliders at 50. John Wall still with the Wizards, Steph and Klay is still with the Warriors, Chris Paul, Blake and Deandre still with the Clippers, Russ and KD with the Thunder, Lebron with the Cavs, Gasol with the Grizzlies, Cousins with the Kings, Davis with the Pelicans. The only big name players I saw on different teams was Kevin Love with the Magic and Carmelo Anthony with the Brooklyn Nets. If you like more big name player movement you are going to have to play with some sliders.

Well, you make your own decision on this one but I think there need to be some edits to peak end for a lot of these guys. I feel like a lot of them are just too old to be at the top of the league like that. Of course, there is plenty of time for that. Id be interested to hear your guys thoughts on this.
So thats all I have for you guys. Its about 4 oclock in the morning and I have to get started on these draft classes and other SimWorld related projects. I think I have done enough work that I can throw myself a damn plug so
. Check out our fictional draft classes at this thread:
