Plz Explain Def Consistency

OK with Logic, my basic conclusion is that Offensive Consistency is the ability to not fall into a cold shooting slump, but what is Defensive Consistency Rating? What purpose does it serve?

If I had to take a guess, I would say it effects how much of a hit that player takes to his defensive ratings when he gets scored on.
