Next gen contest system is not fun!

This is the perfect example of the 2k fun factor dying

2k11 you see how you could hit those difficult shots offline with melo,Kobe,mj,
But fast forward to 2k25
And those type of shots are 95% bricks because of the new shot contest system
I dare you guys to try to replicate these old 2k11 videos with melo and not on the lower difficulty either lol

Btw is it me or melo's animation look more like melo in 2k11 than 2k25?

Yeah, sadly this is one of the consequences of PVP gameplay and the fixation of 2K of not separating modes. They simply give you sliders so you can try to fix the issue by yourself. The problem is that with sliders alone you cannot fully fix the issue as then you will be able to make contested shots even with role players and there's no real separation between those that are specialized in making those shots and the others.

They should at least reintroduce the old "contested" attributes in the players that they removed, but even that is a move tailored to PVP gameplay that is their main focus nowadays so I don't see them coming back, sadly.

Hmm. I think I'm going to have to disagree with you. I play on highest difficulty and once I learn someone's jump shot I have no problem hitting tough in rhythm contested jumpers with them.

I know how to run with Cam Thomas and he won't miss unless I lose focus on the release, take a bad shot or he's cold.

Cam Thomas is not a good example to take because he has gold Mini Marksman that practically negates most of of the contest on anyone higher or at the same height than him, along increasing the green window under the same circumstances. It's the most broken badge in the game and the reason why short guards are the meta this year around.

But sure, if you know your jumpshot que perfectly and you use rhythm shooting you will be able to make some contested jumpers (if you are lucky with the RNG and are not against someone with the challenger badge) but you can do the same with every single player, there's no real differentiation between players that are good at making contested shots and those that aren't, as it was so in the past, since 2K has removed the attributes tied to those things. They tried to use badges to do the something similar but the PVP crowd started complaining so they removed them later.

Re: Next gen contest system is not fun!

Ok I did some research
I watch more 2k11 videos
And I noticed the CPU shooting defensive strength is not super strong like 2k25
I think 2k needs to patch or rewrite the shooting strength sliders

Watch this 2k11 contest against MJ
Sometimes they get their arm up,run up,or good strong contest
You don't get that in 25 you get super strong contest all game long and I think that's prob why a lot of us (users) are bricking difficult shots imo

Basically every AI defender plays like San Antonio spurs kawhi leonard on higher difficulties instead of going by ratings

I might go back to 2k24 to test the contest system vs 25
I know their meter is better for sure

Re: Next gen contest system is not fun!

I believe part of the contest system also takes into account size. I hit contested 3s all the time with KAT because most defenders are smaller. But when I take them with Brunson, I have to create a little space on a step back to consistently make them. I don’t think it’s that bad since I’ve gotten used to shots with the guys on the Knicks, I think it just depends on who the defenders are and where on the court you’re taken them. Contested mid-range are much easier to make too.
