How to play with updated roster? Xbox one version

Hi all. Just wondering how you can play with the most up to date roster? For some reason I cannot seem to get access to ty Lawson when playing a exibihtion game. When I check rosters in settings he is there but when I use the kings to play he is not avaialable.

Shot in the dark but, are you loading the roster in the Quick Game Team Select screen? I feel like that's what I have to do to get the roster I want, as opposed to loading it in the menu screen like last gen.
