This season is powered by the absolutely loaded Duke squad led by do-it-all sophomore and Pre-Season All American big man Rico Roundfield and senior point guard Henry Cross. Many experts are claiming it would take a massive collapse for Duke to not make it to National Championship and win it. Other contenders include the versatile UConn squad led by freshman standout Geno Gelabale who will certainly be battle tested come March after competing in a grueling Big East. SEC power Kentucky is also joined by very good teams in the uber athletic Auburn team, led by sophomore extraordinaires Donovan Rathan-Mayes and C.C Newley. Also included are the equally athletic LSU Tigers and their impressive junior SF Marcus Craig and the all around Alabama Crimson Tide carried by sharp shooting guard J.J Lopez.
The Big10 appears stacked as usual led by PF Kenny Konchar and SF Eric Hilliard’s Purdue squad followed closely by Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State. Ohio State boasts a top tier roster led by senior point guard Bronson Adams and (name). Michigan State features the super freshman and likely “one and done” forward Alton Kersey. Next tier Big10 teams that are trending in the right direction and could easily dethrone the top teams are Maryland and Minnesota, both led by potential NBA lottery picks, Maryland’s small forward Jamario Twyman and Minnesota big man Parker Rasmussen.
The Big12 and Pac 12 feature typical powers in Arizona, Kansas, Texas, Houston and Oregon all with Final Four hopes and even more. Amongst the aforementioned teams include a few players that could walk away with individual hardware at seasons end, such as the Naismith Award and they are Houston star forward Robert Clyburn, Kansas center Wallace Washington Jr and Villanova guard Lorenzen Kane.
As always, there are quite a few mid major programs that could slide on the slipper in March and really make a run. It goes without saying that powerhouse Gonzaga is always a team ready to compete for a natty and they are anchored by big man Demetre Ndour who has scouts abuzz. Others mid majors to keep an on this season include Indiana State led by Braxton Blades, Memphis and their athletic bruiser Norris Powers, the Perry Watts led Dayton Flyers and the Hawaii Warriors led by rising star Yuri Pargo- to name a few.
Internationally, there are a few players on NBA scouts minds hoping to find the next Jokic, Luka or Dirk. Kamil Uwawah is a name to keep an eye on, born in Uganda and raised in Congo, Uwawah is a do it all point forward despite his “unathletic” build.
Poland point guard Petur Karnowski is an absolute grinder who has been on NBA radars since he was 17 years old and could step in tomorrow and contribute on NBA rosters. Greek point guard, Leftos Balidis has been lighting the Euroleague up the last two seasons being an all star in both of his full seasons with Olympiacos. Serbian forward Mladen Tomasevic finished 3rd in the EuroLeague MVP race last season as just an 18 year old, while Ira Kalaitzkas from Montenegro won the EuroLeague championship with FC Barcelona.

As predicted, Duke seems to be well on their way to yet another conference title and #1 seed in the tournament. Auburn continues to play out of this world in the SEC with their lone loss coming against fellow top 25 team LSU. Virginia Tech has impressed everyone this season, a veteran group has suffered just two losses and both against great teams- Duke and Texas. Hawaii is the only other unbeaten program besides Duke and although their schedule has been relatively easy, they do have two wins against power conference members, Texas Tech and Washington St. Mid major Presbyterian, who has been giving teams fits all season took Hawaii to 2OT’s before finally getting put away.
Teams on the rise:
Ohio State - only loss to Maryland
Maryland - only loss to Purdue
Wake Forest - defeated UNC and Maryland
Baylor - undefeated at home
Navy - upset Syracuse @ Syracuse and upset Pitt @ Pitt
UW Green Bay - dominated Wisconsin in Madison 76 - 60
