Amethyst Scottie Pippen Attribute Ratings & Badges

After the long grind to get 198 stars and unlock Amethyst Scottie Pippen, I have to say that this reward card was not worth the time and effort at all:

On the court, he's only good for defense, dunking, and mid-range jumpers, since they picked a year (1994) where Scottie wasn't shooting a good percentage from three. Your opponent can also just foul you and send you to the line any time that you have an open dunking lane, because this Pippen has a 66 free throw rating.

So really, the only benefits that he brings to your lineup are defense and mid-range Js. And you can't even have him on the floor in a close game in case he gets fouled.

1996-1997 Pippen would have made for a much better reward card, since he would have had a much better three point rating and free throw rating in that particular season.

I'm guessing Visual Concepts picked his 1993-1994 season for this card just because he averaged the most points per game in his career that year.

I hope there's some way that 2K can update this card so that the attributes reflect his 1996-1997 season and he becomes more usable. As it stands right now, I would rather have gold Jimmy Butler, gold Rudy Gay, gold Gordon Hayward, and many other inexpensive mid-80s gold cards in my lineup over this Amethyst Scottie Pippen.

Jesus man the card looks fine. Since when is a 75 rated three point rating not found useful when open? He's never even been an outside shooting specialist. I get the whole complaining about Kidd and Lever, but this card looks to be rated completely accurately for Pippen's best year in the league.

Sounds like people are complaining just to complain.

You'll get a B- shot grade in that situation, which isn't going to go in very often. If Pippen had the Corner Specialist badge or a hot zone somewhere from three, you might be able to get by with that 75 rating, but without those, he's not going to make many deep looks without heating up first. And it will take you a while to heat him up without the Microwave badge.

Pippen put up his best career three point numbers (in terms of attempts and percentage) at a time when the NBA was using a shortened three point line, so it's tough to say what his rating should be in NBA 2K16 if you're looking at his best Bulls seasons. But from 1994 to 1997, Pippen made 36% of 1141 three pointers.

So if you just want to go by those raw numbers, that would put him about on-par with Kevin Love's 2014-2015 season (37% of 392 attempts). Kevin Love has an 82 three point rating in NBA 2K16.

Once the NBA moved the three point line back to its old distance, Pippen was still hitting 33% of 853 three pointers over his next four seasons with Chicago, Houston, and Portland. That would put Pippen about on-par with Louis Williams's 2014-2015 season (34% of 447 attempts). Louis Williams has a 79 three point rating in NBA 2K16.

So if I was put in charge of coming up with a three point rating for 1996-1997 Amethyst Scottie Pippen, I would give him an 80 three ball. That would at least put him on-par with the Gold Rudy Gay card that you can get for 5,000 MT.

Amethyst Jason Kidd and Gold Ray Allen are excellent reward cards whose skillsets are among the best at their respective positions. You won't find many cheap cards in NBA 2K16 who can do what Allen/Kidd do on the court.

There are, however, many, many cards you can find for cheap in NBA 2K16 that will perform just as good or even better than Gold Fat Lever and Amethyst Scottie Pippen.

I already mentioned Gold Rudy Gay, but I'd also take Gold Jimmy Butler, who also costs 5,000 MT and plays just as good defense as Pippen but has much better shooting from three and from the free throw line.

A reward card that's as difficult to obtain as Amethyst Pippen shouldn't be a worse option on the court than a common Gold card that costs 5K.

They should've gave us an amethyst Shawn Kemp, or Clyde Drexler or something... Those would've been better cards

^^ They should just let us pick an amethyst of our choosing. One current for regular domination and one historic for historic domination.

Domination cards should never be "that" good anyway. They should just give you a nice start for RttP, that's all.

It's not like beating Domination requires high skill or anything... It's a grind against silly CPU in Pro difficulty, and it has a matching reward...

I'll probably keep using my Kawhi in RttP even after getting Pippen.

A 75 3pt rating is something I can easily work with and free throw shooting is always easy unless you got the horrid bad FT shooters like Shaq or Wilt. He is certainly not bad enough for you to be saying he can't be in late game.

Re: Amethyst Scottie Pippen Attribute Ratings & Badges

I'm fine with this choice of card. I've always disliked the fact that '96 MJ and Pippen have such high 3-point ratings when the only reason they got them was the shortened line.

What bothers me about the card is Pippen's 78 lateral quickness and 66 strength. Butler, Kawhi, LeBron have 94/95/94 and 65/75/89, respectively. So all 3 of those guys are both better perimeter defenders, especially since he can't really guard SGs due to his lateral quickness. Kawhi and LeBron are also better stretch 4s if we consider a combination of rebounding, low-post D, and most importantly, strength.

He's clearly a better offensive card than Kawhi and Butler though. His midrange is completely money, he's a superior finisher, and his great offensive consistency should also make him about as good a 3-point shooter as the other 2. And not only are his passing ratings better than Kawhi's and Butler's, he's also taller than them, allowing him to make more difficult passes over his defenders, too. So it seems to me that this card is best used in a LeBron-type role, as a point forward who is also a lockdown defender. Butler, Kawhi, and Klay are better choices if you're purely looking for a 3 and D guy since they are better in both of those areas.
