Its not worth the buy as im sure the strategy thread has as much useful info as the guide could. Read that thread then you decide.

just go online and play, thats the best way to get better

Yup, read through the strategy thread, go through the game tutorial, and then go through it again. The most important thing is learning how to pull off the moves, escapes, etc. If you don't want your online record to take a beating, play unranked matches and once you think you're ready go back into ranked mode.
