SO THE YEAR IS 1876, AND THE NATIONAL LEAGUE IS ABOUT TO START IT'S INAGURAL SEASON

So I had this idea back during MLBTS17 to go back to when it all started for what we call MLB, the start of the National League in 1876. Now, other leagues had already existed and many had folded, the American League is not yet been born.

I wanted to start out with all players being rookies, no stats. I toyed with the idea, researched the 8 original teams. Made spread sheets, started redoing a roster of no service time players, it got very tedious and I did not stick with it. It took away from my franchise play time, I think I was playing three different franchises. I would think about starting the project up with each new MLBTS that came out.

Already burned out from off-line Diamond Dynasty, still waiting for the real games to begin before starting this year's Franchise that follows real life baseball. I read a thread a guy who made an all fictional roster and a 30 team rebrand. Others have followed creating their own using his roster.

So I decided to spend some time making my own roster and creating the 8 original teams.

I have finished the generic roster with all rookies with zero service time and have finished rebrand the 8 original teams. I have also created a few other teams from that time period. I wanted to rebrand all 30 teams before starting, but I am eager to start this 1876 Franchise.

I will be playing as the Cincinnati Red Stockings.

The other 7 original teams are...

Chicago White Stockings (The original Chicago Cubs)
Hartford Dark Blues
St. Louis Brown Stockings
New York Mutuals
Boston Red Caps
Louisville Grays
Philadelphia Athletics

A few other rebranded teams...

Baltimore Lords (Actually named Lord Baltimore or the Canaries, I think?)
Brooklyn Atlantics
Alleghenys (The start of the Pittsburgh Pirates)
Washington Nationals
London Tecumsehs (Canadian Team)
Columbus Buckeyes

I have a list (spreadsheet) of other teams I would like to rebrand but my patience to complete these other teams is running low and I want to get started.. As these other teams are all non existant and eventually could work their way in down the line...way down the line.

Sounds like a cool idea. Of course it's your universe but I would stick with the original 8 teams so you could use more appropriate stadiums.

My list would be:

Polo Grounds
Crosley Field
Shibe Park
Sportsman's Park
Fenway
Forbes Field
Griffith Stadium
Wrigley Field

In any case have fun with this!

That is exactly my stadium selections and my other teams (time period correct) are using various Minor League stadiums. Some DNE teams will use the same stadiums, like my Southwest Desert Division teams (if I get as far as making them), EAST Division will use Cityscape stadiums and MidWest Division teams will use more out of the city stadiums. Thanks for the great input.

This sounds like an excellent project. I imagine you used Bacon’s roster as the base? I would at least think his roster would be helpful for a project like this.

Can’t wait to see how the uni’s look. Would love to see some pics when they’re done!

It has been a learning experience for sure. I have researched many early players, teams and leagues.

I download Bacon's roster at one point, but correct me if I am wrong, but I think some of his players had service time and stats. I wanted all players to be complete rookies, that is why I created my own. The original 8 teams have players varying between OVERALLS from 70 to 79. Then AAA IS high 50's and 60's, and AA / A players are 40's and low 50's. Any team not of the original 8 have AAA players on their Major League roster, will be interesting to see if any of those teams win vs the higher caliber original 8.

I would like to post my created Logos and uniforms on this thread, I just never have done something like this, so I have to figure that out. Infact, this is my first time creating them other than in DD mode where I would just slap stuff together.

Once I get my Franchise started, I plan on posting them and stuff that happens in the games.

Will your roster be in the vault? I wanted to start a fictional league with all rookies as well.

My roster is a cut and paste. All of my players are the same guy with the same attributes per level of play and all fielders can play all the position both infield and outfield. I will be individualizing only the players on the the original 8 team rosters. As time goes on I will edit drafted rookies to fill in for the new players that came along in real life. I just wonder will Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams and all the other GREAT that are coming along, will they live up to expectation?...or will they be BUSTS?

There is a All Rookie, all different player roster called IBU Fictional Roster by CrystalSeth52 in the vault. There is a thread on here where many people really like his roster. Mine is very specific to my time period needs. Basically all 2700+ players on my roster would need to be edited.

I'm curious if your roster creation reflected the.... makeup of the league in 1876
