Base running wishlist

By far I find base running to be the most frustrating area of the game. This causes me to lose multiple games annually and usually a run or two every game.

Yesterday I lost 2-1. In the eighth I had 1 and 2 with two out. Line drive to right. Base runners started then held to see if ball was caught. Not sure why with 2 outs. It wasn’t. runner on 1st forced out at 2nd. Inning over. Bottom 9. Runner on 1st with 2 outs. Drive off green monster. Lead runner rounds 3rd I want to score him but realize I can’t. I hit L1. Runner dives back to 3rd safely. However, batter 3 feet from second base also decides to go all the way back to 1st base and is thrown out 7-6-5-3 for the final out...... frustrating.

The first scenario all CPU. The second one my fault for hitting L1 instead of the L stick.

Seems to me a game as good as the show could improve on this immensely with little or no real effort. In most cases I would like to be able to control the lead runner only and trust the other to the CPU. The controls are much more intuitive for all runners than individual runners. I can’t count the number of times I sent a guy from 3rd to home using the L stick and the batter didn’t advance to 2nd on the throw to the plate.

Also while I understand there is a slider for base runner aggression. I would like a feature where cpu runner aggression can be set on a batter to batter basis. In some cases I want the lead guy to be aggressive in some I wouldn’t. In some cases I want a runner on first to aggressively push for 3rd but I’m cool with the batter not risking being thrown out at 2nd. Maybe the game does this under the hood but it doesn’t seem so.

Probably the biggest help would be a Baserunning addition to the practice mode (and a fielding one because why not? It would be fun) where you can set base runners and batting and repeatedly practice 1st to 3rd singles and other multi runner plays. The current pitch and hit modes even with their customization doesn’t really achieve this.

All in all great game. However it seems to me the most unrealistic play outcomes I see are with baserunning by far. Even if I send “all” runners back under no circumstance would a runner 3 feet from 2nd return to 1st just because the lead runner was diving back to 3rd and the cutoff man throwing to third. I think the logic could be improved upon in this area And other common scenarios as well as my ability to quickly decide which set of controls, all or individual runner, to use.

The logic with two out baserunners are so bad...I have seen same issue , runners with two outs stopping and waiting to see if ball is caught...
They did fix aggressiveness in baserunning from last year but...these things that should be “little leaguers “ knowledge is void.

Re: Base running wishlist

This is a main reason I've just gone to AUTO baserunning, because it's not worth having myself screw up all the time, the reaction time especially is just so frustrating.

Re: Base running wishlist

The uber aggressive rounding of bases have screwed me so much this year. I don’t remember it being this extreme min years past

Re: Base running wishlist

While some of the logic does need reworking, the baserunning is better than last year in my opinion by quite a margin.
I don't really have a problem with it as I control runners individually and have done so for about 10 years, so I'm used to the quick reaction and button presses needed to get guys to where I want them (of course I make mistakes, push my luck, don't read a ball properly etc etc).
This is honestly the best that baserunning has ever been.

Can it improve? Of course. Is it awful? No, it's not. Is it game breaking? No of course it's not. (IMO).

If anyone wants to contribute to a wishlist, you never know, a dev may see something useful.

What I never want is either the CPU or my baserunners for example being perfect...I've got no time for that...I want mistakes, chances taken to push your luck etc. I like the variance.

Re: Base running wishlist

I would love to see a mechanic that allows runners to expand between bases instead of running to a base or being stopped. There needs to be something to give more fine control over the all or nothing way baserunning works now.
