MLB The Show Over the Years

A similar thread was made a few years ago and I thought it would be interested if we took a look at how the Show has progressed over the years. For those interested, really pay attention, it's troubling to see the lack of progression in certain areas, especially considering the original version 12 years ago was on the PS2. Some could argue that gameplay has actually regressed and that it looks MORE realistic in previous iterations:

I don't think it's hardware limitations or lack of team size anymore!
I think another company needs to come along and challenge! Now wonder
I have been looking at the same animations for the last 5 years! SMH!

Re: MLB The Show Over the Years

07 looks great tbf, other than terrible textures. Doubt many sports games from 11 years ago played that well. How anyone ever hit anything with Gary Sheffield and his drunken jedi bat trying to distract you I'll never know.

I am surprised how similar it seems to play, all those plays look like they could still happen on 18, although there is obviously less hit variety. I guess it's baseball though so the way it plays stays fairly consistent, but you'd hope they'd have possibly changed a bit more in over a decade.

The only thing that really bugs me is that they've never addressed the out of proportion size of the fielders. That's the one area I don't think 07 got right. They've always seemed far too big and covered far too much ground, but it doesn't look like they've changed it at all over the years. It messes with everything, it makes it harder to hit singles through the infield, it stops balls falling in the outfield and it generally just doesn't feel right.

Re: MLB The Show Over the Years

Yeah, I cant fathom anyone would be content playing Show 07 for the next few years waiting for a future Show to take a huge flying leap. Are there similarities between now & then? No doubt. But I hope that was done intentionally, for continuity purposes. So if you put those snippets of 07 against a few snippets of 18, they should IMO look a lot alike. But once you get them together for significant playing time, thats where the newer Shows shine. Still, its great seeing the evolution of the Show down through the years. Even if we're not supposed to enjoy it lol

Re: MLB The Show Over the Years

A Franchise over the years might be interesting, see what actually got added or taken away each year (not re-skins, adjusting logic etc, actually feature changes). I swear the PS2 version had things the current one doesn't, but it probably was missing a bunch as well.
