Allstar Difficulty...WOW

I want to first start off by saying, wow, what a HUGE difference.

I normally play on veteran for both hitting, and pitching. It made me feel comfortable since I figured I wasnt very good at either. I dont play online, and mainly stuck with franchise mode. With that said, I decided about a week ago to just try dynamic, I figured if I get hammered, then I'll stick to what's been working and stay on veteran. Well, to my surprise I managed to go from rookie, all the way to allstar plus. Yeah, I even shocked myself.

Playing on veteran was somewhat of a task if that makes sense. I firmly believe in working the count, and trying to drive up the opposing pitchers pitch count, so that he makes his mistakes and I can capitalize. Pretty sure what 99% of what everyone else does too. I admit, I'm a pitch guesser, I mainly guess fastball, and react to the breaking ball when need be. On 2 strikes, I always guess low in the zone. Cheating? Defeating the purpose of having a higher difficulty?Maybe, but it helps me. I will sometimes have a hard time driving up counts because I would react to the wrong pitch, and cause a grounder, pop fly, etc.

So, as I climbed up the difficulty ranks, I found it easier hitting. I guess its cause I cheese by guessing the pitch/zone on 2 strikes...whatever the case is. I do strike out more, which is odd for me. I never used to on the lower settings cause the pitch was almost always in the zone. Guess I must have a good hitters eye lol Anyway, I played last night against the Dodgers and Kershaw. I actually had him at 78 pitches at the start of the 6th, when before I would try and be around 50-60 on lower settings. I find it easier to work counts in my favor, yet still mess up and get miss/called on 3rd strike because of a border pitch.

Pitching is my strong suite, always has been. I wont go into too much about it. I always was able to pitch well, just didnt think I would have a era under 3 after 15+ games on Allstar.

I just wanted to share the new breath of life I have found after changing difficulties. Sorry if it's all common sense, just wanted to share my opinion. i know i need to turn off guess pitch, and probably stop guessing zones on 2 strikes, but to each their own. I'm enjoying it, my runs scored are on par. I average 4.3 runs per game. Dunno if that's good or bad.

Thanks for reading!

You don't need to turn off Guess Pitch if you don't want to. No one is going to shame you for using it (at least I'm pretty sure most here won't, lol). If you're having fun playing the game, that's all that matters.

I'm still not very good at hitting, but I got much better when I moved away from beginner and rookie and got in to veteran and now all star. The lower levels threw too may strikes and I was hacking at everything, so when a pitch was off the plate I was in the habit to swing at it. Since moving up my eye has improved a lot

Re: Allstar Difficulty...WOW

I've left it on dynamic difficulty this year. I've been playing MLBTS since the '06 version and I always went with Veteran hitting, and either Veteran or All-Star pitching.

So far, about 60 games in, I've moved to High All-Star hitting and low HOF pitching and still climbing.

I'm liking the results. My goal for many years has been to do everything I can to push the opposing pitcher to 15 pitches per inning and it seems to be a bit easier at this level.

Yeah if you want to work the count you cant play on any difficulty lower than allstar. You are going to see your walks sky rocket.

Not that I'd shame him, but I will say that back with MLB 12: The Show, I got so much better once I turned off guess pitch. Might want to try it. I remember going from barely being able to eke out one run to scoring 18, 19 runs. Really had to ramp up the difficulty.
