JD Martinez help?!?!

Anyone out there have any freakin' advice on hitting with JD Martinez?! I'm hitting much better this year, compared to years' past, with one exception.......JD Martinez. Through 25 games he's hitting .114 with 2 homers. The only homers he has are hanging offspeed pitches. I consistently make "good" contact on fastballs that are strikes, and it does nothing. The defense plays this crazy shift on him, and he hits bullets right at people. I use a normal swing with everyone, but am wondering if anyone is having success with power swings? I occasionally will use a power swing if he's facing a lefty and up in the count either 2-0 or 3-1. He's killing me.

change his batting stance. if a real player were struggling that much, he would tinker with his mechanics in some way.

Play another 25 games and see how it evens-out. Guys get off to horrid starts all the time...it just always looks worse at the beginning of the season.

Another thing too....when I have a guy that is struggling, I'll use the contact swing more...get a couple of dribblers through for base hits...sometimes it just takes a little hit here or there to kinda snap out of the funk...

Sounds familiar, except for me its with Aaron Judge. He is hitting a robust 1.90 w/ 3 HR over the first 15 games.

Re: JD Martinez help?!?!

To be fair, I hit .198 with Freddie Freeman last year, but also had 38 homers. Plus, I didn't hit with anyone, last year. I have MULTIPLE guys over .300 right now............which is the first time in a while. I play every game of a season each year, and then sim 5 years and usually get in another 50 games or so.

He could be one of those guys you just have a hart time using. Everyone has them.

Re: JD Martinez help?!?!

I had a SS who spent an entire season suffering from bad luck. He was squaring up the ball often enough, it just was always directly at someone. Ended the season with a .220 AVG with an OBP that was barely better.

Then was my best player in the playoffs... Basically single-handedly won the world series for me.

Then went on to be the best SS in the league for a few years. Retired and walked off into the sunset (and into the baseball hall of fame).

Unlucky years can and will happen.
