What's your strategy for drafting in your franchises?

Topic.

I usually look at where I have a low number of players (like if I only have 4 LF) or where there's a gap, like if Hanley is rated 85 and the next 1B is rated 62, etc.

What about you?

I've been considering this. But what determines that for you? I usually pick the highest potential at the position I'm looking at.

I look for the tools I need. With my player editing system guys can always change positions but there are severe limits to how much I can effect their ratings. So if I need power, I draft power. If I need pitch velocity, etc, etc.

Re: What's your strategy for drafting in your franchises?

For the first few rounds I draft the best player on the board and avoid any player that hasn't been scouted heavily.

If I'm in serious need of a catcher or middle infielder I will look at position and try to draft a college player. Same with pitchers. But I would never draft a LF because I need a LF. You can put any good player in LF.

I prefer to just go for the highest ceiling on the board and if it doesn't happen to be someone I need or I am not confident they will develop (or if I don't like playing in game with them) then I will trade 'em pretty quick and take advantage of the high potential.

Once the scouted players are gone, I let the CPU finish the draft.

Re: What's your strategy for drafting in your franchises?

I try and cater my scouting to my thinnest positions so I can draft the best available at those. I'm really thin at 3rd so I drafted a guy 75 potential with power but is going to struggle in the field projected 2020. And a guy good in the field and good contact with no power 75 potential projected 2022. I'm in year two and my top three 3rd basemens contracts expire 2020.
