Options Years & (yes) SpringTraining 2017

My pet-peeve, undeniably the biggest one of all, is everything about Spring Training in this game. In fact the last thread I started here was, creatively titled, Spring Training 16. So more importantly, my 2nd biggest pet-peeve is when the option category on contracts is totally inaccurate. (If I'm remembering correctly) This often is the case on OSFM rosters (which is understandable if so), but it's very dissapointing when it happens to the game's default rosters. I haven't played a version since MLB 14' but has anyone else been negatively affected by inaccurate option statuses lately?

As for Spring Training, I have a relevant question in terms of Management logic since it has been brought up a couple of times mostly for the newer defensive concepts in the game. Will starting 9's and the top 5 rotation guys really still go wire to wire for the whole spring training? I guess, inevitably the answer to that is yes. I just can't help myself from bringing this up again.

Not sure if this is what you're getting at or not, but I noticed that many of the player's option years were incorrect. Some guys that should've had 0, had 3. Many of the guys had 3 or 0 options, didn't seem to be many players with 1 or 2 options left. Used to be dead on with those in previous versions, not sure what happened.

You probably have to wait for the franchise deep dive on twitch to find out your ST question. Howevwr, they are fixing pitching A.I bullpen changes in regular season, so maybe they also fixed their ST logic.

Are you talking about subs in a Spring Training game? If memory serves me correct yes in MLB 14 Spring Training games were mucked up in terms of the computer manager not subbing in any players. But it was fixed in MLB 15 and I can confirm that it works fine in MLB 16. I am 7 of 29 games into a spoofed 2017 Spring Training season right now using MLB 16 and modified OSFM rosters before MLB 17 is released, and this year String Training is going just like last year did.

In these early days of Spring Training, the computer manager allows the starter to pitch the first 3 innings (if he does not get pulled early due to poor performance). Then in about 10 games into Spring Training, the computer manager tries to get 4 innings out of each starter followed by 5 innings at the end of the Spring. Once the starter is out of the game, a new relief pitcher typically comes in every inning until the game ends.

As far as the positional players are concerned. The starters play the first six innings and then in the 7th inning, pinch hitters and fielding subs start coming into the game for the next couple of innings. However the computer manager usually lets 2 maybe 3 starting positional players play all 9 innings.

Oh and perhaps I should point out that I am using the full 40-man roster in my Spring Training games. If you only played with a 25-man roster, I sure you'd see less subbing going on.

The logic is still flawed. The computer plays there normal lineup everyday and the bring starters in as relievers then pitch them again the next day for an inning. This is due to only have 40-man rosters available. They need to allow for access to all players in the organization.

What I do because of this is start a franchise with 30 team control and cpu roster control on. Then I can send players up and down and use them as I please. I set the other teams lineup and roster. One spring training is over I restart the franchise and skip spring training, since it has no carry over effect. Of course this is only good for the first season of a franchise,

It gets tedious but it's better then the alternative.

I had recently thought about 5-6 things that should be implemented to make spring training more important, more fun, and more meaningful. I'll attempt to post them here later today.

Something in the lines of contracts and options.....The thing I noticed in '16 is that renewed eligible contracts aren't actually just renewed. It's treated as an arb year so to speak where normally, the non-arb player is usually renewed for something slightly more than the major league minimum. Example - I started a new RttS player in '16 and he made it to the show in the first year in Sept. So he got like maybe 30 days of time accrued. In the off-season, he should have just got renewed for the major league minimum (or slightly above that) but signed for 1.2 mil as a non-arb guy.
