Looking for some basics!

I can't find an actual manual that will tell me the following (if it matters I play in RTTS mode) :

1. What the icons next to the player names mean (e.g. a small red and blue star)

2. What all the abbreviations stand for. E.g. A piece of equipment gives +3 to pclt or something - no idea what it's talking about

3. What each attribute actually effects. For example, as a pitcher in RTTS what does the BB attribute do? Does the reaction attribute help me get off the mound and over to cover 1st base faster? Etc.

Re: Looking for some basics!

The icons next to players are:

RED STAR/BLUE STAR = All star in their respective league. Red for AL/Blue for NL

FIRE = Player is on a hot streak

SNOWFLAKE = Player is on a cold streak

DL = Player on the Disabled List

WHITE CIRCLE WITH RED CROSS/PLUS SIGN = Player is injured but not on the disabled list

RED CIRCLE WITH "50" IN IT = Top 50 Prospect

CROWN = League leader in stat category

That is all that I can think of off the top of my head.

Pclt is plate control i believe. I can't remember the other abbreviations off the top of my head.

I think that's Pitching CLuTch. These are the ones I've seen in RTTS (It's not my primary mode so I'm not sure what, if any, modifiers to Velocity/Control/Movement exist via gear)

  • CON = Contact - helps govern size of PCI and likelihood of a hit
  • PWR = Power - helps govern size of PCI and likelihood of high velocity contact
  • PVIS = Plate Vision - helps govern chances to make contact on a swing
  • BCLT = Batting Clutch - modifier to player traits in clutch situations
  • DISC = Discipline - help govern chances to check your swing, additionally, for CPU players, the likelihood that they chase a pitch
  • BUNT = (Sacrifice) Bunting - controls bunt logic and success by the player (better bunts to correct locations)
  • FLD = Fielding - helps govern chances to make an error/mistake on the field and may alter animations
  • ACC = Throw Accuracy - helps govern accuracy of throws, not necessarily just for errors (though that's a possibility on any inaccurate throw)
  • REA = Reaction - helps determine the jump and route to a ball.
  • BLK = Blocking - helps the catcher contain pitches in the dirt and to avoid passed balls and wild pitches
  • ARM = Throw Strength - helps determine the distance and velocity on throws
  • SPD = Speed - how fast the player moves on the field on both the bases and in the field
  • STL = Stealing Ability - how likely the player gets a good jump when stealing and how quick acceleration is to top speed on steal attempts
  • DUR = Durability - determines injury risk, resistance to fatigue, and has an impact on stamina reduction during pitching

  • H/9 = Hits per 9 innings - helps the pitcher manage contact (induce soft contact more often) and modifies size of hitter PCI
  • K/9 = Strikeouts per 9 innings - helps the pitcher avoid contact (induce swings and misses)
  • HR/9 = Home runs per 9 innings - helps the pitcher avoid the long ball...meaningless in "live" play (only sim modes)
  • BB/9 = Walks per 9 innings - helps the pitcher avoid very wild pitches
  • PCLT = Pitching Clutch - modifies player traits in clutch situations

BB/9 helps your pitcher stay in the general "accuracy area" of his pitch (i.e. like the Pitcher Consistency slider). This is different but helped by the Control rating of the pitch itself, which helps govern the accuracy area (i.e. like the Pitcher Control slider - if you play on Pulse, the pulse circle is something of an idea of what I mean by "accuracy area").

For covering first base, that's a combination of Reaction and your pitcher's Speed. If it's anything like franchise, pitchers often have horrific speed ratings, which impacts plays like this.

CB laid it out nicely in his first reply.

If its red AND blue, he was an all-star in the minors.

Re: Looking for some basics!

Thanks all. I discovered going to the help screen once you pull up the roster screen tells you what all of the icons mean.

Now I just need to get a clear guide to what the attributes in the attributes for RTTS actually do (for example I've read somewhere that the HR/9 for an RTTS pitcher is not used if you actually pitch the game vs sim it.). And definition for all the abbreviations.
