Is it possible to play the games in the same console? My buddy and I are facing off in the WS and are trying to figure out if this is a possibility. Thanks

as far as I know this is not possible.

Correct. Not possible. This is because you both need to be signed into your PSN accounts, which you cannot do from the same PS3.
