Learning your lesson...go and play!

Some may remember, some may not, i wrote a thread similar to this a couple of years ago, and im going to update it for this years game, because i think its worth saying and could be valuable to others in the same boat.

Basically, the last few years, ive generally messed around too much when waiting to start my franchise, i would always say to myself things like:

- your sliders arent tested enough
- wait for the OSFM OD Set
- then, may as well for re-rates/pitch edits etc
- there may be another patch, wait for that
- alter my players equipments to be as accurate as possible

...and on and on it went, i was giving myself any excuse not to just go and actually play the game, due to this i was always struggling to get my franchise in (i play all 162), and any post-season, should i get there.

Well, this year its different, ive finally wised up.

My sliders? Yeah, they may require the odd tweak in future but ill have a set out this weekend (see Slider forum) and any adjustments can be made on the fly, why on earth do i need to restart a franchise many games in because of one click of a slider left or right? Madness lol, but i used to do it

Rosters? I will never have a go at anyone that waits for OSFM, ive always done it myself in years past, they are an incredible community based product that deserve all the praise they get...with that said, this year, im not waiting for them. Why? Because we are possibly looking at a month or so, May, i dont want to waste another 4/5 weeks of possible playtime, when, in reality, i only plan to get one season in, as i play all 162, at a relaxed pace, 2 hours a game, so wanting the correct minors and prospects for seasons to come is futile - ill be onto MLB 16/17 by then.

Patch? There may be one, but theres no glaring errors that mean waiting, again, likely a month or more for it, it will work on existing games anyway.

So, basically, what AM i worrying about? Why didnt i just start and play in years gone by?

NO MORE i tell you!

So...my message to others in a similar boat thinking about waiting for this, that and the other that they "must have", before starting their franchises...learn from my painful lessons and get started, enjoy the game and go and play.

Im sure im not the only one whos come to see the light where this game and waiting is concerned.

My franchise starts next week, once and for all, and will NOT be restarting, because ive also learned if you keep restarting you simply never finish what you started.

If you are a little OCD and absolutely HAVE to wait for all the edits and re-rates that OSFM will get in the months to come, fair play to you, each to his own and all that, but me, well, i used to be like that, but like i say, lesson learned

Lets play ball!

Oh man, this, this, this, all of this. My first week or so will be spent fine tuning my difficulty through Dynamic Difficulty and maybe some modest slider tweaks, but after that I'm diving in. The game's playing better off its defaults than I've ever seen it, and I'm really feeling difficulty level might be the only thing I'll need to figure out.

Re: Learning your lesson...go and play!

last year there was a bug that made me restart...come to find out, around feb i figured out that it was only a visual bug at most. Players contracts wouldnt slide over...example: Tim Hudson had a 2 year deal...after 2015 and entering 2016 he would still show a 2 year deal...this made me start over and over until i finally said oh well! come to find out, it was just visual and the actual contract actually did wat it was supposed to....i also am doing my own rosters since there is so much info out there now and ya give myself a week b4 im done thx to my wonder job!

Hey guys I am new to the game, love it so far. Quick question: how do you suggest I should start? So far I am playing on dynamic difficulty, analog batting and pitching with the meter. Do you think u should stay on dynamic or just set a certain level and adapt myself to that? Pitching looks sometimes top easy, batting a nightmare or close to it

This is my biggest problem each year. I used to get through all 162 and the playoffs with games like Triple Play and MVP. Now I restart 8 to 10 times through a season and barely get through 40 games before Im done. I think I might take this approach and get going in a few days once I tweak through spring training.

Exactly. I will adjust certain sliders, but if i was forced to play off DEFAULT, i could do, out the box its better than ever.

Yep, its a refreshing feeling finally ridding yourself of reasons NOT to play the game, its bizarre, we've all done it, many still do, thats their choice, im just glad ive seen the light

This is exactly my point.

People will find any and every reason not to start or to restart, when in reality, it doesnt matter, its either cosmetic or doesnt affect things in reality.

If there were major game breaking bugs, of course, we'd all wait, but there isnt.

Play ball!

a good playing system i started a couple months ago which i really like and will adopt is each month play 1 homestand and 1 road trip of ur choice....this way the sim factor is still there...and if u need a change of pace...maybe those games u sim....u play as ur AAA or AA teams
