Is it possible to have WAR in the game?

I am not sure how WAR is calculated, but I do know it's pretty scientific, takes defense into account, and varies slightly depending on the entity that is calculating it.

My question is, is it possible / realistic for WAR to be included in the game?

Different websites have different formulas for WAR. Unless SCEA gets some kind of partnership with Baseball References or Fangraphs, I doubt we'd ever see it, as much as I would love to have it as well as other advanced metrics such as wRC+, UZR, FIP, etc

Re: Is it possible to have WAR in the game?

I calculate FIP on my own, but WAR is based on the statistical output of all other players around the league so it can't be done manually. Hopefully SCEA gets on board with this.

They did start putting in some advanced stats a couple years ago, but they are really antiquated and unpopular ones.

I'm not a big SABR metrics guy but the one stat I would like to see for hitters in the game is BABiP.

Weird thing is that stat IS in the game, for pitchers.

Re: Is it possible to have WAR in the game?

I'm weary of extensive defensive stat tracking yet, batting and pitching in this game are realistic "enough" but fielding gameplay is not nearly as far in progress. For the fun of things, I give myself a challenge with fielding by turning the catch indicators off and nulling global def. speed and fielder abilities so that makes fielding a whale of fun for me. Even still it's not worth calculating WAR with the fielding issues this game has,

Re: Is it possible to have WAR in the game?

I don't think it is without having to overhaul the sim system to account for UZR, which is still tracked manually by the people over at BIS (which SDS contracted data from ironically). The manual part isn't that important, but what is important is the fact that every batted ball would have to be played out like when you are playing the game yourself. I don't know how complicated/sophisticated the simulation engine is but I don't think it has that kind of depth, otherwise sim games would potentially take several minutes (if not hours). Multiply that by 15 and... yeah...
