Trout/Harper Caliber Drafted Prospects

So I am in year 2017 in my franchise and from observation I noticed that most if not all 90+ potential position players that are ages 18-19 are rated 40-50 overall. I have seen lower potential players with high ratings at that age but not anyone that could approach key milestones by the end of there career (I sim more often than Mark Reynolds strikes out!).

For example I have an 18 year old LF that is in his first year on my team. He is a 74 overall with awesome attributes but he is only a 71 potential so he is already regressing in his first season.

Has anyone else noticed any can't miss position players in a draft. And not just overall but with actual decent attributes. (for example not a 73 overall with 40-50 contact, powers, vision, AND discipline)?

That sounds like what they did last year but one of the new features was supposed to be new generated prospects to separate stars from the rest. Have you checked the other teams to see if they drafted some A potential guys with high ratings?

Regarding the guy regressing in his first season - how are you training him?

I haven't advanced to the draft yet but when I do I'll bump this thread with my results.

I drafted a 1B in a franchise before the OSFM rosters and I found a 1B who was 19 years old, 99 potential and had 62/68 contact with 75/79 power. Had decent vision/disc that were in the low 60s and high 50s, I don't remember the exact numbers though. He also was slow and had an atrocious glove.

The Astros drafted an OF 1st overall that was 74 OVR and 92 POT. His MLB ETA was 2015. That's one of the first I've ever seen like that in The Show.. pretty cool.

Re: Trout/Harper Caliber Drafted Prospects

Im hoping they happen but I really hope that phenom type players are not popping up more than 1 or 2 every few years or more. Guys like Harper and trout dont come around every draft or every other year. Yes the media will hype a guy to make it seem like it happens all the time but it usually never does after a few years. Cant miss guys get hurt all the time or miss.

Re: Trout/Harper Caliber Drafted Prospects

I'm only in my second year of my franchise but I drafted 2 players who were pretty solid in the first season.

A short stop with 89 potential, he's a 64 overall at 20 with high 60's contact right vs. RHP and LHP.

A first baseman with 87 potential 62 overall at 19, 50's contact rate but low 70s power.

Both their ETA's were 2017 or 2018, so not bad.

Where are you guys seeing the number for potential, all I see is a letter grade. Also where are you seeing their MLB ETA?

Re: Trout/Harper Caliber Drafted Prospects

I drafted a LF who's ETA was 2015, he had a 99 Potential with a 74 overall. He was 20 years old and had high 70's for contact. His power in the 60's. He wasn't a great fielder however and was slow.

Then in the second round of the same draft, I drafted a catcher with 72 potential who was already a 80 overall with incredible fielding ratings and 80's contact! He had no power, but his ETA was also 2015.

This was a steal of a draft and can't wait to get them started in the majors, most likely from opening day!
