What settings do you use?

Re: Lack of walks still an issue

I find myself walking more hitters this year than any previous installment of the game. I probably walk an avg of 3 hitters per game.

As for taking walks, I've gotten better as the year has gone along. I just finished a game vs the Blue Jays where I walked 5 times (6 if you count the intentional pass given to Matt Holiday)

My team has the fewest walks in the league (yes, I am talking about ME playing all 162 games, every inning, every pitch) in any game I have ever played.

It is the ONE THING no one has ever done right.

In this game, human/cpu pitching control/consistency/early strikes are all lowered almost to nothing. Helps, but in my last full season with a legends Yankee team, we had about the 25th ERA, but had the lowest walks allowed total in the league.

AGAIN!!!

Here, I thought this thread was about that, and it is about the reverse, which, to be honest, is the player's fault. Be more selective, play the count and the pitcher, foul off close ones. I often am at the top with individuals or teams I use with walks because I "work the count/GRIND out at-bats" virtually every time (and considering 9 players at 500, that's 4500 AB's in a season, which is low for the real total...lot's of grinding).

NO GAME HAS EVER (ever, ever, ever) SUCCESSFULLY MASTERED humans GIVING UP WALKS TO CPU. It is too easy to get a strike when needed over a season.

If a game gets it right, it could be this one eventually, but it astounds me no one ever talks about it. It is the ONE single glaring problem this game, and everyone before it, have suffered from unanimously!
What option are you using for pitching? I use classic and there are times I can't throw a strike even if I aim right down the middle. I also don't just lay pitches in when behind. I usually walk 3 to 5 batters a game.

I prefer meter pitching, but that is even easier to get a strike when you need it. Went to classic to help walks, which it did, but not enough to mimic the real game.

I have even gone so far as to lower every pitcher on my staff to 1/3 BB ratio (so a 90 became 30)...doesn't matter, still lead the league handily in fewest walks given.

In High Heat, using a hack program, I would elevate walks allowed to 300% usually...still led the league in fewest walks given.

One day, someone will get it right. This is the best baseball yet, but is still the one area that is off!

See above for options used;

I have found that lowering stuff to get more walks actually increases opponents batting average. It is that "wild IN the strike zone" thing. Doesn't really help with walks, but does get more hits against with control altered to get more walks.

I pitch aggressively, so I very rarely pitch around anyone, but through my video game history it is more like I have Greg Maddux pitching when it comes to walk/IP ratio.

It is what it is...everything else flows pretty excellently!

I didn't specify and that's my fault but I meant more along the lines of what do you use as aids?

I too use meter but leave the location indicator completely off so I have to go completely off of feel and that made the difference for me.

So I literally have to go off feel when moving the stick in the zone and if I want to try and hit the corners I'm risking missing the zone every time and if I want to make sure to throw a strike I am risking laying one on a tee.

I have 28 walks in seven games using quick counts. Not really seeing the issue. If anything, it's an issue with your slider settings.

Sure, close to 30 years, but you must have hit it. It was my sliders.

I just don't get people sometimes, it's like they feel they HAVE to speak out (even when it shouldn't happen).

Kehlis, I cannot leave the catcher glove off simply because it is a video game and I am not within that universe to be able to "feel" where it will go. I get what you are saying, I don't know, maybe I'll try a game or two with some specific roster as the good ones start coming out.

I had played ONLY meter pitching until last year, and I asked Knight his opinion about walks and he said give classic a try. It is better, but still not there. Thanks for the thoughts!
