MLB The Show 22: Roster Overhaul Project

Hello MLB the Show community,

In 2019, I was on here and provided an off-season roster and received amazing feedback in the thread and in my DM's. So, after many years of university and internships, plus starting my career, I wanted to return and contribute to the experience. I have not played MLB the Show since 2020, the unfortunate year for all (COVID), however I recently purchased MLB the Show 22 for PS4 and wanted to do rosters again.

With all the time I had at home in 2020, using PuertoRick's faces, for most prospects, minus the SCEA Sony provided faces, I did a 2021 roster for MLB the Show 21, as I did not see a real reason to purchase a new show since they released it so quickly in the midst of the pandemic, not knowing if we would even get a season. This year I wanted to return and do the same for MLB the Show 22. Over the past few years (3 years) of not purchasing the Show, I have not seen a real reason on last gen (PS4) to purchase MLB the Show 23, as not all features of PS5 will make it into the PS4 version. Also, the game does not change overall that much and I do not mind being a "game behind."

So why write all that and explain myself? Well, I would like to propose to the community, those especially on playstation, a complete overhaul of the MLB the Show 22 rosters. If you really think about it, it takes 30 people to do 1 team each to accomplish what I am thinking. Or, if you look at it another way, which I also wouldn't mind, 15 people, 2 teams each. One AL and one NL. For example, I am a Yankees fan and would do their team overhaul, but I also live in the DMV around D.C. So I have a soft spot for the Nationals, going to their games numerous times during a single season. I want this to be a community effort. Those who can contribute and volunteer, even if it is making faces, editing their teams equipment, or whatever they'd like. This roster would primarily be for those wanting to play now, franchise, or RTTS.

Here's what the overhaul would entail:

1.) Updated contracts and service time of players, including signing prospects past 1 year (example: A - 3 years 120K (40K AAV.), AA - 3 years 150K (50K AAV.), & AAA - 3 years 180K (60K AAV.)). Unless specified such as veterans who signed a split deal, 700K vet. minimum, or on the 40-man roster (700K AAV.). Using MLB/Prospect 1500, some minor league players have their contract listed. I normally put 5 years, for the amount they signed for, i.e. international signings.

2.) Updated equipment, based on getty images for those who are mostly in the MLB, google images for prospects. Including colors, brands, type, etc.

3.) Face overhaul/created player overhaul. This one can be tricky. Personally, if they are veterans, with stats, from the original roster, do not overwrite them. Work on the face, keep the stats. Also, I like to find players who are comparable with teams and stats whom they do not have stats for. For example, Jimmy Cordero of the Yankees on the roster I downloaded has service time with no stats. So I am planning on looking for another created veteran with similar teams and stats. For him specifically, CHWS player with stats. Also, more importantly, do not overwrite SCEA Sony players. They may not be perfect or outdated, but it saves everyone from trying to create them, while also keeping the audio. Again, they do not have to be perfect, but well enough to make the roster realistic. Including, non-roster invitees. Reach out if you need help making a specific player! Chances are, someone can make the face if you're having trouble.

4.) Updated batting stances, running form, and HR trot/celebrations (can be custom) for created prospects (Youtube is a big help here).

5.) Prospects created from Prospects 1500, MLB top 25 per team, Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, etc.

6.) All updated ratings for prospects, veterans, and 40-man rosters. I like to use statcast, but mostly baseballsavant. Normally, I do averages. But play around with it. It is your team should you choose one! Also, for reference, MLB the Show/Sony does not specifically state it, but I have figured out. 50 for batting stats, as well as running, is average. Anything above 60-70 is above average. That means the player produces. For example, Rougned Odor. His contact is terrible, but the problem is Sony makes it so his contact, vision, and discipline is to where he isn't effective at all. Yes, he isn't the best according to his numbers, but he plays in the MLB. So one would think he can hit lol. However, I am not the only one who thinks this. Some people are great at the game and can hit with anyone. Some just want to play and not have the CPU screw you over because Odor's contact is 20-30. Plus, pitching is so good now-a-days, it cancels each other out. 60 and up is average for fielding. Below 60 causes players to short hop throws, misplay balls, and cause mind numbing errors. Again, these players are in the MLB, they can field and throw (let's just say my career field has taught me this )
