PS3 vs PS4

How much better will the game be on the PS4? Here's why I ask..

For the past 3 years I've only owned FIFA and I keep saying that I'm not really a gamer because that is the only game I play. But I look at my collection now and see FIFA,The Show 13, NCAA Football (just got into in January of this year) & Tiger. (only played that for a month until FIFA came out). I guess that I am a gamer?

Is it worth it if Im only going to use it for The Show and FIFA. And right now, I'm not even sure if I'll get FIFA next year. Ok....I probably will but as much as I love NCAA and now The Show, I doubt I'll play FIFA like I did in years past.

And at what point do consoles come down in price?

Re: PS3 vs PS4

There are pros and cons to both consoles right now.
Theres a million things the PS4 can do that the PS3 cant, but there are still some things only exclusive to the PS3.

Right now the PS4 is around $400 depending on where you live.
I dont see that price coming down (unless on a special sale) for a couple of years and 2nd or 3rd Gens and at best it might only be $50 to $100.

FOR ME..... Im waiting on Gen 2 or 3 to get a PS4 or when they stop making MLBTS/PS3. Whichever comes first.

I use my PS3 for more than gaming and there are certain features the PS3 has that the PS4 doesnt..... (yet).

The fact that you are a sports only gamer......the best thing you can do is wait.

Sports games throughout the history of console gaming take between 2-3 dev cycles to really get to the point of wow....so much better than last gen. I went through it on Sega Genesis, The PS1, and the PS2.

I waited 3 years to pick up a PS3. Glad I did.

If you wait 2-3 years you will then be picking up FIFA and The Show when they will clearly be better on every level. From gameplay, graphics (which is the instant gratification now), AI, stat tracking, features etc. Not only that.....but all the cool non sports games will be far cheaper as well. Money is not an issue for me....but I don't feel like spending 60 bucks a game when I can wait 2 years and get some killer titles for under 20 bucks. More games for my dollar.

You also have a great opportunity to actually play a lot of incredible PS3 titles now for dirt cheap...so you can actually expand your gaming wheelhouse a little bit with very little lay out of cash. Not a bad thing.

I completely agree with you but my only grip with waiting a couple years to play those games are if you are an online gamer, most of those other gamers would have moved on by then... I am not a huge online gamer, especially with The Show... BUT I dont have that hankering for getting the "new games", then again I only get like 3-4 games a year(maybe) with The Show being my only annual purchase...
So it's a give and take type thing... Buying what's relevant vs buying a deal...

why wait 2-3 years?? PS4 plays games now and isnt that what consoles are for?? If interested in doing more than that then get a PC or quit gaming all together

Reasons for waiting......can be many. For me it's about understanding from decades of gaming experience that when your an early adopter your going to go through some growing pains with sports games. It happened every time. And having that....knowledge or wisdom or whatever we want to call it has taught me for my hard earned dollars I can wait to get the maximum value.

I guess because I manage money for a living......I have this approach to a lot of things. I am a value based guy at my core.

Believe me.....I love video gaming big time....duh....that's why I hang out here (probably hang out here too much for my own good). I am so very tempted to get a PS4....just for The Show....because I know it will be really good and I love baseball with a massive passion....but I don't think it is going to blow away the PS3 version on the field....visually....of course....but gameplay? I am skeptical of year one. I could be wrong....because I will go and play it somewhere to be sure. If it blows the PS3 version out of the water......bet your bottom dollar I pick up a PS4 just for The Show 14. No question. But I think experience has taught me oh so very well about being an early adopter.

Another reason for some people is finances. It is a lot to drop 400 on the console, another 60 bucks for the second controller and another 60 bucks for the game. That is a lot of money for a lot of people. Simple as that. Some wait a year or two to save 100-150 and games also get cheaper big time.

But.....let's not pretend the PS4 games out right now are that much better than what we are playing on PS3.....because from everything I have seen, heard, read and played myself (yes I tried out 2K and Madden)....nothing screamed to me I must have it now.

Just personal preference.

Now for online gamers.....totally different story. If your an online franchise guy/gamer (which I know you are Owl)......being an early adopter is totally understandable and I can see getting plenty of gratification out of that.

I have just started dabbling in online sports (SOS M25 was a great experince for sure) and if I really enjoy it more and more.....maybe I make the jump sooner than I thought. But I am really an offline gamer in my soul. I like playing on my schedule, in my universe and I am a classic roster nut bar.....so...anyway.

Can't wait man.......12 days away!!!!!

Im sorry, but your reasoning is often very flawed and very one sided.
Whenever someone speaks negatively about the PS4, you jump right on them in defense.

If youre such a PS4 gamer now, why are you still here on the PS3 side of OS?
Apparently there is nothing here for you anymore since the PS3 is such an inferior console.

Re: PS3 vs PS4

Here's my thoughts on the whole PS3 vs PS4...

First, it's a personal choice. It's just that simple. If you don't really have the cash or aren't looking for anything more out of your games, then stick with the PS3. If you want a better experience sooner, get the PS4.

I don't have nearly as much time to play video games as I used to. My yearly purchases typically include NHL, Baseball, and one (maybe two) story driven games. That being said, when I play, I want to best experience possible. Current-gen is starting to bore me because AI has reached it's potential. Any additional modes, animations, and graphics doesn't change the fact that the CPU won't get any smarter. That's what pushed me over the edge, knowing smarter AI will make the games more engaging.
