Player Collisions?

How come there are no player collisions? outfielders? infielders/baserunners?

instead they just run through each other like ghosts. can someone explain this? i have an idea why it might be hard but does anyone know for sure? thanks

I see collisions on the basepaths like a pitcher fielding a bunt and tagging the runner, usually causes the runner to jump out of the base path.

I think I do a poor job controlling some slides. I need to review how to plow instead of slide when I'm clearly going to be out at home...

Re: Player Collisions?

ya but there are instances where the baserunner is going home and before the catcher gets the ball he just runs through him like a ghost.
even when players get tagged sometimes the infielder's arm goes right through the baserunner

this is one thing i have always wondered, why is this difficult to improve or get rid of?

Re: Player Collisions?

It has been said that they tried it before and the game was a mess with players falling down all over the place. I know they have really improved the awareness of the players the last couple years and they avoid collisions much better. I too would like to see a real collision detection system in the future where limbs can't go through each other, but I'm sure it won't be easy if possible.

A dynamic physics engine such as Euphoria would make it possible, but that's gotta be tough to master as well.

Yes that would be amazing to see but as you say it's really hard to get it to look fluid (while The Show uses animations they can look as organic as anything else at times).

Also it's not something you just add in one year...the whole engine would have to be rebuilt from the base up. If they were ever going to change the entire animation system I'd imagine going to the ps4 would be the time, but it might not make sense to do.

Re: Player Collisions?

If I remember correctly, the old Triple Play 99 game I had for PC actually had collisions, for example, where a RF and 2b going for a ball could collide and fall down, allowing the ball to drop. I have about zero knowledge of impact engines so I do not know how possible it is for the Show to do it. But I do know that it has been done before in baseball games.
