First and Third Basemen incapable of fielding any balls?

I'm wondering if the game just thinks A-Rod and Teixiera are bad, or if everybody is having this problem. I am incapable of fielding any balls hit to first or third, unless they are hit DIRECTLY at the first or third basemen. Any ball hit even SLIGHTLY to their left or right they just give this little lean and miss. Hitting the jump/dive buttons will not work to execute a dive for the first and third basemen to a ball rolling by them....they just lean over to pick it up and fail to do so. Previous years games I was able to execute dives in the holes, but not this year.

This is killing me because I'm getting singled to death. Is this something that can be patched, or are we just going to have to live with terrible corner defense until MLB 13 The Show? Or am I doing something wrong?

There is a delay in transferring control, and it causes a hickup. And the defender doesn't get into position quick enough, and you get that FIELDER got handcuffed/looks afraid of the ball animation. This is only a user problem. If you play auto fielding or take notice at the CPU, this doesn't happen nearly as frequently.

It's possible - your position and the type of hit is everything:





Both in the same game. Again - where you have your defense lined up is key. Most don't want to move their 3rd basemen over to guard the line.

Actually my problem is with the sharply hit grounder to the left of the 3rdbaseman, so between him and the short stop but closer to the 3rd baseman Usually this is a 1 - 2 step field the ball and have to pieoette the trow type of play, but By the time I start getting him moving, he goes into the "I am scared of the ball"animation instead of diving or running in front and knocking it down. Instead the ball is in left field. I really don't see much beating me down the lines to be honest.

I know exactly what you mean and it's very annoying. I use the Guard Lines defense in the appropiate situation so that has nothing to do with it. The groundball to the left of the 3B and the one to the right of the 1B seems impossible to field because the guy goes into the animation before you get a chance to control him and it can't be overridden. I like having some interaction in the fielding so auto-fielding is not an option so i just live with these cheap hits.

I have had the same problem and it has nothing to do with the fielding ratings of your corner infield players from what I've seen. I started a 'chise with the Red Sox and having gold glovers like Gonzalez at first and Youkilis at third seems to mean nothing when it comes to those types of ground balls.

While I've only started looking for this, it's not impossible from what I've seen. May be difficult but then again, obviously it's quite possible.







I know the animation in question however. The problem with stuff like this is one person says it's not possible, so when you see it you start thinking the same thing. The "reach" animation actually happens quite often in the majors, hence the reason it's here. The immediate, reflex dive though... that seems impossible to react to as a human...
