The one thing that is I feel that is missing in the show

MLB 11 is great!!! The improvement they make on a year to year basis is truly impressive. With the addition of the analog stick hitting throwing etc. For the first time is pretty good and i know they will improve even further for next year. The one thing I do feel is missing is the personality of the players. When I play NBA2k11 I truly feel for example when I use Kobe I actually am using kobe from the post moves to the way he dribbles to the way he walks, drives the lane and yells at the ref lol etc. I feel that in the show players in the game do very similar things except for hitting and pitching. But what about the emotion that Jose Valverde brings on the mound. The always smiling robinson cano. The way brain wilson is a character in its self. I hope next year they really imply what 2k has done with showing the personality of the player and swagger. What do you guys Think????

Wait, what? I was with you till that part. Vlad on the mound? He was known for his gun when he played RF but I don't think he's ever pitched

But seriously, they're already on top of this.

I'm sure the problem that SCEA has with doing this is that you're dealing with so MANY players when it comes to MLB. It's really time consuming to get everyone of them to have distinct personalities.

I totally disagree with you, players swagger and personality in the Show is the best I have ever seen in a sports game. For example take a look at Alex Rodriguez he is super serious and confident in contrast to Pirates SS Brandon Wood who is super shy and acts as if doesn't belong in the majors leagues. Hence, he a .180 career batting ave lol. Take a close look at Longoria, Cody Ross, Justin Upton and those players essence is also captured. I feel this is the best part of the Show and it brings the game to life. The attention to detail on the stars and rookies is just incredible. I'm already looking forward to playing with the bunch of rookies from this season Yanks Jesus Montero, Giants Brandon Crawford, Seattle's Kyle Seager, Dustin Ackley, Trayvon Robinson. Is it March yet???

Re: The one thing that is I feel that is missing in the show

Sorry but I couldn't disagree more with the OP. IMO player personalities is one of the best things this game has to offer. Most of the batting stances and pitching motions are down pat. I truly feel like each player has a personality. It's actually creepy how playing with each player is so different and cool. Also it's one thing for the NBA to have players actual personalities in a video game. With NBA video games you can see every player on the court all of the time. This brings out every person's character. In MLB video games you only see a select few of the players at a time. Most of the time it's just the batter, pitcher, and catcher. The only way to show their character is through batting stances, pitching motions, etc, and they have that already. They spend the perfect amount of time updating this stuff already.

Also they do show players emotions on the mound. Brian Wilson goes crazy when he completes the save and does the X with his arms as celebration. Also Jose Valverde (most intense closer of them all) goes nuts when he completes a save. In fact when he's brought into the game Vasgersian says "and here comes the ever entertaining Jose Valverde." They capture the emotion of the players so well already.

Re: The one thing that is I feel that is missing in the show

It more of a cutscene than in realtime. I am looking for the way they run. The way O-DOG is always yapping. Nothing really happens in realtime and also coaches. I would like to see coaches show more emotion like tony la russa etc.

For Example Look at these two of Nyjer Morgan

The Show Ex. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAW1Xkc_ZRU
(After the catch no emotion no nyjer antics)

Real Nyjer. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play****p?content_id=18611909

Look at how Nyjer after the catch doing the Shaka symbols with is fingers. The reason why the camera stay on them so we can see those kind of things.

Re: The one thing that is I feel that is missing in the show

i think the op does have a point, it would be nice after a big play to see players show some emotion and then see the crowd reaction. even if some of the cams cant catch it, would be nice to see in replay. nba2k does a great job with animations, sometimes i wish we could see more customizable animation packages in the show. for fielding as an example, the higher the fielding rating the different animation packages you see the player do. so someone with a low rating would have a more basic approach and someone with a higher rating will be more spectacular.

I'm almost positive that's already in The Show. Some infielders won't show certain animations (e.g. backhand sliding grab of a grounder) because their ratings aren't high enough.

Yeah, but you should be seeing guys like Jeter make the jump throw compared to other guys who just plant and throw. The animations should (and I know this is very difficult) be player based instead of rating based.

And I agree 100% with OP in general. Players should just have different types of personalities (stoic, argumentative, excited, cocky etc) and play types, and then specific animations would be designed based on that. In the game, hitting a routine grounder to short with Brett Lawrie and Yunel Escobar is the exact same, but in real life Lawrie is busting it down the line while Escobar is jogging out of the box. Or using Lawrie again, if he gets a big hit he's hopping around and fist pumping, while someone like Adam Lind doesn't really have any reaction. If stuff like that would be in the game it would really move it to the next level.
