Player Retirements

This has been a problem since atleast 09. A-rod just finished a season where he hit .335, 40 HRs, 140 RBIs. He's 36 y.o. ~100 HRs away from the record and he....retires? Why hasn't this been fixed ever?

Re: Player Retirements

It's a well known issue, and the developers are aware.

Not to be rude, but you're far from the first to post about it.

The game basically needs to decide how many guys it needs to retire to make room for new draftees, etc. It used to be that you could bypass retirements (save and reload) at the end of season, but since 09 when they moved the draft to where it belongs in June, that "decision" is made mid-season. So here's what you can do:

1. Save the game right before the June draft.

2. Do the draft and create a separate "test save" with the draft completed.

3. Simulate to the end of the year and check retirements.

4 If they are good, reload your test save and play on like normal-you're retirements will stick. If not, reload the save from BEFORE the draft and repeat steps 2 and 3.

It can be work (if you're really hung up on the retirements and therefore sim a lot) but that'll bypass the issue.

Maybe they found a better way to test for PEDs so A-Fraud got busted and decided to go the Manny route

Manny's route didn't look bad numbers wise b/c he's had a disastrous last 2 years, and this year he woulda gone .250 7hr 34rbi.

Yes, the retiring after a monster season is a proble. In '09 in RTTS my guy retired at age 42 after hitting .350 54hr 160rbi it was ridiculous.

No, what was ridiculous is that you batted 350, 54 hrs and 160 rbis, let alone being 42. Maybe time to up the difficulty a bit.

OK on that RTTS i simmed the last 14 years just to see what'd happen, it was more of an experiment. I was on 1 notch from the hardest, probly All-star? It would've happened on any diff.level. eh~~

I was trying to be funny, but in all seriousness, where do you draw the line? I hate it that I traded my top prospect for Cliff Lee and then he retired at the age of 35 with only 10 years on service time. So I lost a great prospect that happened to be a catcher for a half year rental of Lee. But the game is programmed to recognize stats, at least when it comes to issues like this. I think the best way to fix this is to only have players retire after the post season. That way only those players not signed to contracts would end up retiring. You see this all the time with people like Frank Thomas and Mike Piazza, where they are available in the off season, but retire when nobody signs them. That and injuries could possibly make it even out with the new draft picks.
