Sports fans -

The boys of summer go back to work today as select stadiums around the country unlock their doors for MLB Opening Day. So, to kick off the baseball season we thought it’d be fitting for you to hear from a former big leaguer, someone who’s been in the trenches and powered through the grind of a 162 game season. Therefore, I’m pleased to introduce our good friend Eric Karros, who joins the MLB 11 The Show broadcast booth this year. Karros, the 1992 National League Rookie of the Year and former Los Angeles Dodger first baseman, completes our commentary trio, throwing his hat into the ring with The Show veterans Matt Vasgersian and Dave Campbell. Certainly no stranger to the limelight, Karros currently works as an MLB color commentator for FOX, as well as KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, where he’s part of the pre-game show for Dodger games. Since signing on to be a part of MLB 11, Karros made multiple visits down to our San Diego Studio for voice-over sessions to record the very lines and commentary that you hear in the new game. During a visit back in January, Eric was nice enough to sit down with us and provide his thoughts on The Show and what it’s like to now be immortalized in a sports video game. We put together a video of the session that we’d like to share with everyone. It can also be seen on ESPN.com who recently posted it along with an interview.

Welcome to The Show!

He's so boring to me! I know I'm in the minority here but I want Rex back lol. He'd make me laugh when I would swing at a really bad pitch and yell YUCK lol.

At least Rex kept you awake either in disgust or delight. Eric puts you to sleep and gives you neither disgust or delight.

I actually prefer erics more serious tone. I like when he breaks down the opposing team.

I do too, Eric sounds more like a baseball commentator than either of these other two. I really think there are still many improvements to be made to the commentary though

Re: Announcer Eric Karros Talks MLB 11 The Show

Im currently watching the Giants/Dodgers game and cant for the life of me cant understand in the age of tech we have now, why oh WHY cant we have commentary that flows as a real life broadcast does from pitch to pitch, etc. even coming back from a commercial break.

every year i say the same thing, we have 200 gig blue ray discs and we could have 100 gigs of recorded audio. why doesn't SCEA go with this and do it. we could have so much more fresh dialogue than we do now. it could sound so much more real life than what we have now.

i still strongly suggest that the dev team really take the time and actually LISTEN to a baseball game on whatever channel it is... espn would work fine. they need to get the timing and energy and cut scenes and everything down even more than they have now.

maybe i should be sent to sd and spend the season just watching baseball all year with the audio team so we can get something done about this.

It is not as easy as you would think it is. No matter the tech or the storage space.
