Anyone know of anyway that I can download the patch onto a flashdrive? I live in an apartment where they charge to register your mac address for online (crappy I know). So any help would be great!

Nope unfortunately patches can only be DL'd straight to the PS3. You can DL firmware updates, rosters and such, but not game patches.
