Do First Basemen ever drop balls thrown in the Dirt?

Last year, it was a gurantee that if the ball was thrown in the dirt the first baseman would scoop it out 100% of the time, I was just wondering if balls in the dirt are dropped or missed at all this year. I really found it annoying last year because you knew that if it was in the dirt, you were out if you didn't beat out the throw. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them drop balls that they dig out, and know for sure that short hopped throws will skip by them this year. I'd say there are far more errors via short hopped throws than overthrows this year, which is a nice change.

Ryan Howard flat missed one for me last night. Skidded right past him. Booted a bunt in the same game, too. Of course, he also hit a game-tying HR late in the game.

I've seen one so far playing against the Cardinals Pujols dropped a throw in the dirt from the second baseman.

Joey Votto missed one receiving a throw on a double play in my season opener

That's fantastic. I will definatively have to go out and pick up a copy of MLB 10 now, especially now that they have released a new patch to fix alot of the franchise issues. That was one problem that had always plagued this series, was the lack or error variety. In past versions, 90% of the errors were on overthrows at first. I hope we see a few more outfield errors as well, like balls being bootted alowing a runner to get an extra base, and a few routine fly balls being dropped every now and again.

I had Helton have one pass by him once. One thing I have yet to see is a dropped fly ball. Kinda something like Castillo did for the mets last year...Would like to see one, but Ive only played about 50gms or so, so maybe not enough gms played yet.
