Well, Hutton and the otherguy619, as long as we're still on this.......

The "other" game actually has both of these elements done properly.
Not an objective comment when you add the 2k comment.

They cant', unless they do a major revamping of their system. This has been addressed over and over and over. Coupled with his statement below, you'd think he "spotted" this.

Jackdog has already posted the TOS. Hope this clears up your "Jesus Christ" rant and hopefully everyone can drop it.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you couldn't compare competing products to each other here.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that this has been mentioned already & can't be corrected according to the developers. I withdraw by concern.

And for the record, I agree, the catcher straps don't look right visually, they do "float" around the player body instead of pressing tightly against the body. It's not a major issue or anything but it doesn't look right.

I agree with you and him. I don't think the straps look right either, but it's insignificant to me, so I wouldn't make a digital collage to prove it.

The war is over. Period. I don't want to see any more game bashing either way. This will NOT turn into the next Madden/2k5 board war.

If I am told of fans of either game "invading" the other forum and bashing either game, action will be taken, including the banning of users from specific forums. As always, constructive criticism will be allowed.

If you see any of this, please use the "Report Post" feature, or PM myself or a moderator directly.
(Speaking in a calm, gentle voice).

I appreciate the quick link. It was actually the very first thing I read even before I made my first post. I did make note of the fact that the administrator did not want "game bashing," but allows "constructive criticism." Definitely understandable, otherwise we could go on and on about subjective matters without resolution. There's no real purpose to doing so. It's agreeably pointless.

True, and I had the impression my post was constructively critiquing the game. "MLB The Show 09" is what got me back into gaming. One of my closer friends has a PS3 and an XBOX360. He enjoys "First Person Shooters," I don't. My gaming preference is "Sports." The fiirst time I got the chance to play "MLB The Show 09," my immediate reaction, with an added touch of adrenaline excitement, was "THIS IS COOL. I NEED TO GET A PS3 SO I CAN PLAY THIS GAME."

Let's put it this way. If it was not for "MLB The Show 09" I would not have gotten back into gaming. I essentially stopped gaming since the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The graphics on "MLB The Show 09" was simply MAJESTIC. The graphics in Gran Turismo Prologue sealed the deal.

Everything has history behind it, whether that be related directly or indirectly. Yesterday was history; Two days ago was history; twenty-four years ago was history. But we learn from history and the past from what one has done and what others have done. Lessons can be learned from one's successes and failures; Lessons can be learned from what others have accomplished.

My sole intentions were to constructively critique the game with hopefully what was evidence, both written and visual. I am not a programmer. I don't have the resources or knowledge on how to newly create something from scratch that I have seen done in different games, whether that be from NES, Sega Dreamcast, XBOX, PS3, PC, etc. Being a non-programmer with no knowledge in the field of programming, I'd figure it would be best to borrow ideas from people who have done it in the past.

The "other" could very well have been Professional Baseball Spirits, Baseball Stars, a 2K installment, or any other baseball game. But it would make sense that it is likely 2K because both parties are in competition against one another here in the United States plus the fact that when most refer to the "other," it is usually indicative of 2K.

I admit that this "floating strap" is the first I've seen on catcher's uniform in a baseball sports game. I checked out series of many other baseball games, and this is the first I have seen it and figured if it is the "little things" that count, the creators of the "The Show" would like to make corrections if possible. If keeping the "strap" more flush or directly superimposed over the back of the uniform to minimize the gap appearance is not possible, hopefully, maybe they can design it as part of the overall uniform or use the same "technology" or "programming code" for the shin-guard straps. The shin-guard straps "code" would be nice.

It certainly does not affect gameplay one bit, but I will admit that the "floating strap" is still and probably will still be an issue in my eyes. As noted by jim416, it's not something that can be corrected right now. Then, I look forward to it hopefully, wishful thinking, with all my might, that it gets corrected in future installments.

I guess firstly note, "as always" in my original post was in non-bold plain font like such "as always." It may or may not matter. I can see how "as always" could have been construed as disrespectful or non-objective whether it be bold or non-bold. It wasn't my intention. Having seen lots and lots of footage of The Show's "floating strap" ingrained in my head, I had the impression that this issue has always been an issue, thus using the phrase "as always."

My understanding is that precluding examples of what's historically been done in the past by other people is not the only way to be "objective." My understanding is that someone providing examples from other people who have done it in the past would be the most effective way to communicate that my proposition is possible, and not impossible. The only reason for bringing up any other game or games is because that game or games have done it. If there are limitations to what "MLB The Show" can do right now, then so be it. It is what it is. But hopefully the "little things" are noted and will be addressed in future installments to the best of their abilities.

I also messaged Russell_SCEA (SCEA Community Manager) back in October and very recently regarding the Catcher's chest protector, along with batter's "not stepping out of the batter's box between pitches" problem that I personally see. If I recall correctly, I only compared them to real life Major League Baseball footage and pictures. If my recollection serves me well, I don't believe I mentioned 2K at all. It was a fairly lengthy message (usage of details and examples). It probably and should have been worded better. I don't believe I mentioned the "floating strap."

His response was "Some batters do step out of the box and the chest protector is a none issue." Using the phrase "none issue" to describe the chest protector simply made me believe they don't believe there is an issue with the chest protector or even the catcher's gear. And if that is indeed the case, then my assumption is that they have no intentions of fixing it. (Calm, gentle voice here including everywhere else.)

This is not to call anyone out. Apologies, apologies, apologies to Russell_SCEA if this is the impression anyone gets from reading my previous paragraphs. Again, everything that I've written is suppose to be in a respectful, calm and gentle demeanor.

Bottom line: One's internet "tone" of voice needs to be in check over the internet. "Tone" can be interpreted differently. Anything that I previously stated was suppose to come across constructively gentle. It is understandable that that may not have been at face value. Apologies. I'll word my future posts better.

Thanks for quoting the entire thing. :

Anyway, there's something about the Fukudome pic that makes it look incredible to me. Maybe it's the lighting/reflections in his helmet?

Re: MLB '10: The Show Screenshots (Pasta Padre)

Figured I'd throw my two cents in this thread.

1) Awsome pics, everything looks great, can't wait for March.

2) Regarding the catchers strap conversation, from a developer's POV between 'The Show' and its competitors, it's likely a difference in coding and the path chosen for rendering the models. If there are other games out there that have the strap directly touching the back, it is likely that way because it is directly rendered on the model of the player. The Show's models however look like the equipment has been rendered separately from the player model, and to avoid clipping you see a space between the player and equipment in certain instances.

Rendering the equipment separately will give you more of a 3D look than rendering the model and equipment together would. It also gives a better shadow affect, and the work done in this area is excellent.
