Throwing Help!

Here's the situation. There are no outs with a runner on third. A ground ball is hit towards first base. The first baseman sees the runner going towards home and decides to try and throw him out (he's too far from the bag to step on it first). Instead of just lasering it in, he clutches the ball twice before throwing the ball...I was holding down the X button also. Is there a way to stop this?

Also I am throwing balls to first base over the first baseman's head more often than I should be doing. This happens even when I'm all set and just tap the button. Is there a way to prevent this?

Thanks!

Re: Throwing Help!

No way to stop it, the only way is MLB 10.

Re: Throwing Help!

You can't stop the double clutching on the throws. If you don't preload, it is sometimes faster (lots of people do it online). For the overthrow issue, lower (from default) the throwing error slider by 3.

Re: Throwing Help!

To stop the double clutch, push the left analog stick toward the base (home in this case) you want to throw to before you press the throw button. This will cause you to run a couple of steps, so when you press the throw button, you get a running throw that does not double clutch. TA-DA!

Re: Throwing Help!

You may also check the defensive rating on your firstbaseman. I noticed that when I got into interleague play with the RedSox, David Ortiz turned into a liability at first, and he too was overcome by the double clutch syndrome, however K. Youk never seemed to have this issue.

Is it possible that the double clutch is part and parcel to the lower ratings of non-defensively skilled players?
