Exclamation Batting Splits Not Equal to The Actual Splits?

I'm in the midst of editing ALL of the Rays players. Longoria is the first that I'm doing for position players. I already see (IMO) that his power numbers are too high (vsR +79; vsL +88)...that's Hoawrd, Pujols, Manny territory.

So...I just happened to look at the contact splits, and I see:

vsR +70; vsL +86....

I don't agree with this.

Longoria batted .242 vs lefties (+60)* and .284 (+71)* vs. righties.

* my formula

I've 'done' (or thought I did) three teams already, now it looks as though I'll HAVE TO check each players' contact splits for those teams.....damn

Re: Batting Splits Not Equal to The Actual Splits?

I've spent a whole week with the game now and the only thing I've edited is equipment. Sliders need no adjusting and from playing a test franchise (playing 1 game a series and simming the rest), the stats around the league look very realistic after a month. I also simmed two seasons and the stats were great both times.

Now, it's your game and you can do what you want with it, but shouldn't you do more extensive testing before you go and edit everybody?

but that's just it, I'd said to myself that for THIS version of the show, that I would REFRAIN from doing basically universal edits on each player...as I've done every year since 2005. However, when you KNOWWWWW a guy can't hit his weight against lefties and he's shown with a contact vs. L rating wayyyy higher than right. It's wrong.

Not only that, if you take the time to check the splits of the players who have this error, the splits won't match like they should. Most of the guys here fuss about realism, well, that's what you want.

Now if it's too much work, a hassle or a pain in the *** to go through those stats for all players, than I ain't madatcha, but wrong is simply wrong.

And oh yeah.....

PS...in case anyone is listening:

JASON BARTLETT and ADAM KENNEDY SHOULD have a ZERO power rating from both sides....and IWAMURA is damn near close himself...look it up!

i've noticed quite a few singles hitters that seem to have a standard 25 for power, i also noticed jason bartlett had a 99 for i believe it was l contact, i know he had a good avg. against them but...

@ sask3m

Here's what I want to see at the end of my PLAYED OUT (not simmed) franchise season.

When I look at my players and all players around the league, the guys who hit NO HOMERS in real baseball...I DON'T want to see them hit any in the game...period. Now I wont go crazy if a guy gets one or two...but for the Juan Pierres, Adam Kennedys, Jason Bartletts, Luis Castillos, Willy Taveras', David Ecksteins and others of the world, these guys have to have zero power. The sliders for power alone, will take care of the rest....even at default

what exactly are 0 power going to give you? I know Bartlett had a down year for power last year, but hes shown in the past the ability to be in the 2-7 range, and when his season picked up in the second half he started to raise his SLG and ISO as he began to pick up more doubles in the late months. This is just me saying without knowing what 0 power does, but if its absolutley no home runs then I can't see how thats accurate. Also, is 0 power going to affect the fact that guys like Bartlett get 22-27 2B and 3-7 3B? Again, these aren't rhetorical, just wondering. I mean an 0.90 ISO is pretty bad, but 0 power? Also, in terms of pure power Manny is obviously more powerful, but not a ridiculous difference (.259 ISO for Longo to .270 for Manny, .531 SLG for Longo, .600 for Manny, but the SLG is driven up by more singles due to BA. I guess what I'm getting at is what do you have Manny at, because if he is in the mid 90s then I'm not sure the difference is quite that well, especially considering the inconsistency in his power splits for left/righty (killed lefties for a while, now he struggles, relatively, against them). Obviously I'm a bit of a Rays homer as well =p

@ sask3m

the contact for Bartlett

in real life (2008) was .248 vsR (they have 58, I have 62) and .379 vsL (they have 99, I have 94)..so it's close

@ Navi's_Navy

it will give me at the end of the year almost a mirror imaging of his actual 2008 stats. Been doing this for a long time and I really, truly have nothing to complain about once I do so.

A lot of folks are afraid to zip the power, but like I've said a million times before, when guys hit well from any or either side of the plate---particularly if it's OVER .300, the contact alone will take care of things--including extra basehits. Bartlett is a fast runner, so that's a wrap!
