Considering Buying PS3... Burning Questions

hey guys. I've been browsing these forums for a good two weeks now and I can't express how excited I am about this game. That message from the EA developer was the icing on the cake.

I've got 500 dollars right now (college student) and I am strongly considering buying a PS3 with The Show 09 being the primary reason.

Here are some questions that I must know before making the purchase:

1. When hitting, do you use the left joystick to aim (like MVP 05') or do you merely click X or square? I read one review that said there was NOT directional hitting.

2. How does the fielding throw meter work? in gameplay vids it looks like you just click the button of the base and the strength of the throw is predetermined... if so, this is a gameplay killer for me.

3. How does the gameplay compare to MVP Baseball 2005?

4. Oh shnikies I have class I will be back later to post the rest of my questions. Consider this 'part 1'

thanks in advance,
Tim

Trust me its worth it....There is directional hitting (right stick before pitch).

There is no meter for throws but its pressure sensitive I believe.

Re: Considering Buying PS3... Burning Questions

1. It is a zone hitting system you use the left analog to aim your bat. The right stick influences(before the pitch)_if you want fly or right ground etc.
2.There is a throw meter although it is not very good.
3.My belief is the ganeplay is far superior to ANY other baseball game.
4.I was in the same boat last year when I was looking for a blu ray player for the family. Bought ps3 and 07 loved it. Bought 08 two months later. If you love sports esp. baseball ps3 is the way to go.

I think that the Show is >>> MVP 05 but some people still love MVP. Personal preference but I would say that the gameplay between the Show and MVP is certainly different, particularly in the pitcher vs. batter showdown.

MLB the Show is Fantastic. I bought system for it last year. Enjoyed 08 and like 09 even better. Be advised the PS3 system stinks. I have gone through two systems with little playing time. I am now having more problems with controller and four light issues. My son loves 360 and plays it every day. I rarely play mine cause it keeps breaking or freezing. Poor system.

Left stick indicates your zone coverage -- it’s like MVP except you don’t get instant HRs by pulling every pitch. Right stick (before the pitch) influences direction -- left/right for bunts, down for grounders, up for pop-ups. You just move it once. You don't have to hold two sticks in different directions while you swing.

The longer you hold the button, the harder (and less accurate) you throw. It’s indicated at your player’s feet by color bars that grow outward. I think it’s green for soft throws, red for hard throws. You can pre-load your throws -- just release the button before the bars go red to cut down on errors.

More realistic, less arcade-y, feels more intense and lifelike. It’s hard to explain, but it feels like actual baseball, not just a pretty video game.
