Atlanta Braves "ATTRIBUTES" edits

I have never started a thread like this but am inclined to make adjustments to the Braves but fear I may get carried away (prisoner of the moment syndrome after just 2 games) so I'm hoping for other Brave fans, and even better, non Braves fans, to keep it in check.

The other Braves thread is mostly about stances and faces and I want to talk pure "attributes".

Even before Freeman's great first 2 games of the new season he was touted by some analysts as an MVP candidate. I'd like to see his overall go way up to 90 something, likely 94-95. Is that reasonable?

Heyward is a great defender and I'm wanting to boost his defensive ratings a bit. Which would you adjust?

Simmons is a tricky one because the book on him is that he is as good as any shortstop in the game defensively. Should his ratings move closer to Ryan's of Seattle?

Also, he handled the bat really well in the WBC and it carried over to the last week of Spring. Any of you think his contact should move up a tick?

Beachy. He seems a tad high at 87. Has anyone considered dropping him a little?

Justin Upton. Is it too early to bump his power up a little? He looks like the MVP candidate he was a couple of years ago, even though its only been 2 games

Venters and O'Flaherty seem low to me. I went through all the elite relievers and they are really better than most. Personally, I think they should both be around 90. What do you guys think and what would you change to get them there?

Teheran seems low since he's gonna be in the rotation and had a great spring. I'm guessing he's low to leave room to grow but I still think he should be higher. What do you guys think?

Anyone else you think should be adjusted?

Thanks for the help

90 seems high for Freeman.
I think he will have a big year, but 90+ ratings should be reserved for the best of the best. I see Freeman as around an 86-88. B+.

That's why I gave guys like Beltran (rated 99) a huge ratings drop.
I want only the best of the best to be rated that high, and at this point in his career, Beltran just isn't that guy.

I think it's reasonable to give Upton's power a boost. He has been hindered by that thumb injury in the past, but when he is healthy, he crushes balls further than anyone not named Mike Stanton.

It's also extremely reasonable to give Craig Kimbrels 2-seam fastball velocity a 20pt boost

Re: Atlanta Braves "ATTRIBUTES" edits

You really really can go by overalls this year. I ran multiple Braves chises waiting on OSFM and Freeman always emerges as the best hitter and I was batting him 6th against RHP and 8th against LHP.

I personally wouldn't touch Simmons as he plays fairly well in-game and has plenty of time to grow. Maybe just focus his training on what you want upgraded.

I was thinking of maybe upping Heyward's arm a bit, but I'll probably just train it instead.

In my chises both the Upton's were power beasts, especially Justin. Just because a rating might look low doesn't mean that's how it plays. If you upped it more he would finish with way to many HRs.

I probably should have mentioned that I don't go multiple years into franchise, like some. That's kind of why I felt Freeman should get boosted but I can see what your saying Riverwood. Who would you guys compare Freeman to at first base? I think he's the best in the league. Like you, I do feel there are too many highly rated players and Beltran's 99 stood out as an example of that.

But, although this is meant to be a Braves attribute thread, I'd love to hear what those who follow Beltran closer than me think of his rating.

HighCmp, everyone that refers to Simmons says he is already an elite defensive shortstop and some scouts say he's already the best defensive ss in the league, perhaps comparable to Ryan.

Has he played like that in your franchises? My thoughts were to give him a fielding ability just a few points under Ryan and maybe a stronger arm but not a more accurate arm. I do agree on the hitting ratings.

I really want to hear from Braves fans about Avilan because he's looking as good as all the hype on him and I think he should come up a bit.

The Nationals starting staff is ungodly good. I think 3 guys are in the 90's. So, I really want the Braves pen to be as highly rated as they are in real life.

Re: Atlanta Braves "ATTRIBUTES" edits

The changes I've made to the Braves in my franchise have been fairly minimal since I beleive the ratings are very misleading to begin with.

I mean when I first saw McCann's ratings i was like wow he looks like ***. but then he still rakes the ball when u play with him.

Changes I've made:

Increased Simmons' fielding and throw power a bit (around 3-5 clicks up) (I was getting a few too many errors and his arm just didn't have that zip i wanted).

I increased Uggla's speed and base-running ability a lil bit cause he is one of the Braves better base runners (last year he was arguably the best). To balance this out I lowered Freeman and Francisco's speed a good portion to more accurately reflect how good Uggla is on the basepath.

As far as everyone else I felt they were fairly accurate. I dropped Medlen a little bit since in no way shape or form do I believe he is a top 5 pitcher. I dropped basically all of his /9 attributes a few points to make him a bit less unhittable.

The bullpen is fairly accurate imo since people like Venters and O'flaherty are a bit streaky at times to really put them into the elite level.

Hitters wise I think everyone plays exactly how they should except Uggla. Uggla I dramatically reduced his contact ratings to make him a bit more streaky. Freeman rakes in doubles every time I've used him, J. Up always crushes the ball when he connects with one with the heart of the bat.

As far as the fielding attributes of Heyward I can't really say. I've never felt that the outfield played realistic enough to really make the elite defenders shine compared to the average ones so I usually leave the fielding ratings alone for outfielders.

I'm trying to figure a suitable power increase for Justin Upton as it's in the low 60's from both sides right now. Maybe lower 70's?I'm curious if anyone has Justin Upton's power ratings from last years game? I think his power rating may have suffered this year because of the low home run total last year, which you have to take into account the thumb injury.

Re: Atlanta Braves "ATTRIBUTES" edits

I haven't touched Simmons ratings in my chise, and while his arm might be lacking a little zip he has made no errors for me.

Haven't pitched too much with Avilan so can't comment much on him.

Still I wouldn't touch either of the Uptons, they play great for me, Justin is a power beast when you square it up and B.J. is great to the gaps and hr wise during his good streaks.

I did wind up upping Heyward's arm strength a couple clicks but that's all, didn't touch accuracy.

As I mentioned before Freddie is arguably my best hitter, and he's hitting cleanup in the chise I started after the OSFM release. Honestly I see nothing to increase/decrease with him. He hits doubles and HRs both to left and right field, and even has a triple. Also he's playing potential gold glove 1b picking all those bad throws in the dirt.

To me the whole team was rated quite well IF you actually play the games. Now if your a player that sims alot then idk cause I do not. A slight speed upgrade for Uggla and a slight arm upgrade for Heyward/Simmons, as well as a pitch or two added to Teheran's arsenal are the only changes I've found needed.

Re: Atlanta Braves "ATTRIBUTES" edits

Also was that a great game tonight or what!

Man that's the best ninth inning I've seen in awhile, just wish my boy Chipper could've made it one more year, although I am quite surprised with how well I hit with CJ.
