Re: Cardinals Prospects

3b Zack Cox with A potential - #2 overall prospect, #1 3B - they project he will have at-least average power at the MLB level. Doesn't sound like they are too insanely high on him, but I could see him as a fringe A prospect.
SP David Kopp with A or B potential - #18 overall prospect, #7 ranked RHSP. They have him as a hard throwing RHP who is comparable to Mitch Boggs, argument would probably be a fringe B or C potential rather than A/B.
3b Matt Carpenter A potential - #11 overall prospect, #2 ranked 3B. They basically say he has a small window of opportunity to get to the majors due to Freese and Cox. If the kid was an A potential guy they wouldn't see that as an issue.
SS Peter Kozma A or B potential - #21 overall prospect, #1 ranked SS. Showed some good pop at AA level last year. Average has not been there for him. Good defensively. I'd say B potential based off of what BA is saying.
SS Donovan Solano A or B potential - Not on BA'S top 30, not on top 5 SS prospects of your organization. Don't see an argument here for A or B potential.
LF Aaron Luna A or B potential - Not on BA's top 30, 5th ranked LF prospect. Don't see an argument here for A or B potential.
SP Brandon Dickson A or B potential - Not on BA's top 30, not even on the top 28 rhp of your organization. Really don't see an argument here for A or B potential.
RP Nick Addition A or B or C potential - Not on top 30 4th ranked LHSP
1B Mark Hamilton A or B or C potential - #23 ranked prospect, #1 1B prospect in your organization. Killed the ball at AAA last year. Limited defensively. Just looking at the offensive season he put together last year combined with his poor defensive play, I'd say a B potential.

I know Baseball America isn't the end all be all, but these are their thoughts on these guys. Keep in mind they have the Cards as the 24th ranked organization in terms of Minor League talent/prospects.

Not all prospects can be high potential guys man, I understand we grow attached to these guys since they are "our" prospects, but every once in a while you gotta take a step back and take some non-biased advice on their true potentials. Knight and Co. do a wonderful job grading them out IMO.

Re: Cardinals Prospects

A really good minor league system will have, at most, three or four A potential prospects.

A potential prospects are the cream of the crop as far as prospects go. In my mind, for a prospect to get an A, they should be ranked very highly -- you would find them in the first 20 or 25 guys on Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects list.

A B potential prospect is still a very good prospect that projects to be a big time Major League contributor. In this game, it doesn't seem there is a real big difference between A and B potential players as far as progression goes.

Most fans tend to overrate their own prospects. I helped with the Mariners on the OSFM roster project, and I can tell you I overrated their prospects at first.

Shelby Miller is probably the only Cardinals' prospect that deserves an A.

That's just my opinion. I wanted to hand A's and B's like candy for the Mariners, but it's not realistic.

Amen. I just didn't want to say it, because, well...you'd know it'd look coming from a Cubs fan.

Thanks for contributing to the rosters that I will be using for the next 12 months!
