Retired number workaround for MLB11?

I just downloaded a fantastic roster by ODC1980 from the roster vault and noticed that he was able to somehow overcome the problem of creating players with retired numbers. Almost all of the players in his classic roster have their correct numbers (Mantle 7, Brett 5, Ripken 8, etc.).

I want to make some edits to some of these players (stance, ratings, etc), but as soon as I make any changes, the numbers revert to something other than the correct retired numbers. I need to figure out how to change the numbers back to the correct ones once I am done editing the players.

Just wondering if anyone knows the workaround for this year's game. I tried last year's method, but it does not work.

I did a Ted Williams that had number 9, until I edited him as well.

Not even sure how I got it to work the first time, as I have gone back and tried creating him again, and importing him, but it will not work anymore.

Here is the response I got from ODC1980:

To get retired numbers, you have to send the player to the minors to edit them. when they are there you, edit them the way you want, uniform number and all- The Show doesn't recognize retired numbers in the minors, and then call him back up to the majors. You just can't edit them in the majors without the game giving the player the next available non-retired number. editing in the minors also works for giving multiple players the same number. Any type of roster transaction other than promoting and demoting will undo all retired and duplicated numbers. you can import a player only in the minors. if you import a player to your major league roster, it will also undo the number glitch. I was actually excited when I stumbled upon that glitch. You can only use the glitch numbers on an exhibition or rivalry. If you play a season or franchise, the number glitch also gets undone.

I tried it and it works almost every time!

Just to add, it can be done in franchise too, but you have to play with R.O.S.T.E.R. Control ON and do it through that section and not the management section.

It also gets reset more frequently as well (more transactions, etc), so it's a pain...it can be used though.

Also note that this glitch works with every number EXCEPT 42, since that is retired MLB wide.

Ha...I see they "honored" my request from Community Day!
I asked them to put the retired number "work around" back in and it looks like they did!
Thanks....I didn't even try it yet.

Was it taken out at some point?

They "***ed" it last year.
Funny thing is...it never worked in season or franchise....you would always lose them there.
I think it was '08 when a gamer from Korea...who used my ******s, gave me this tip. It was my first work around!

It was in last year (I used it). (EDIT: unless it got removed with a later patch, perhaps?)

It's also always worked in franchise, but it had to be r.o.s.t.e.r. control ON, as the normal r.o.s.t.e.r management doesn't work (probably due to all that's involved-options, etc). There's a lot that goofs with it though, and from what Jim was telling me, it seems to reset a lot at random this year, so I dunno.

I wish they'd work the older workaround back into it where you could just change to and from the number under player edit without saving and it would stick. Much easier. Maybe you could nudge them towards that (if it's even possible anymore-not sure how it works, programming wise).
