Thumbs up (PS3) CAREW29's CAPS: YU DARVISH; SP: Nippon Ham Fighters (Japan's BEST Pitcher)

http://japanesebaseball.com/players/...?PlayerID=1890

Yahoo! sports has an interesting article about Japanese/Iranian baseball player Yu Darvish. At a very young 21 years of age, he is already considered a legend in Japanese baseball with his impressive pitching performances for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. He’s getting tons of praise from his teammates and coaches as well as MLB players playing in the Japanese Leagues. He’s also notorious for his bad boy rock star image. Whenever Japanese newspapers and magazines plaster their covers with his picture sales start to go up. In a society that is characterized as humble and modest, he stands out from the crowd with his swagger. Also, his mixed heritage makes him unique in a country that is almost 100% homogeneous. While he isn’t going to appear stateside any time soon because Japanese players can only go into free agency after their ninth season, he is definitely being eyed by Major League clubs as a future prospect. And you’ll have a chance to see him next year as he will be pitching for Japan during the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Only time will tell if he’ll have a successful Major League career like fellow legendary Japanese baseball player Ichiro Suzuki.

************************************************** *********

As I wrote earlier...this guy's stuff is OFFthe chain...there ain't NOOOOO doubt about it.

I found out that he's under Japan's contract rules for at LEAST the next 6 or 7 years...but who knows? Sometimes, money does talk...But with the rock star/pop star following he has, nothing is a given.

Another terrible one! A lot of the things are flat out wrong. But who am I to argue! You've watched him on YouTube!

I'm surprised you know who he is.

For the record, Darvish has a lot of work to do before becoming a major league quality starting pitcher.

Re: @ krishna

I'm a Cubs fan, I'm pretty sure I am already in hell.

As the resident statistical analysis genius, and the resident minor league genius, and the resident japanese league genius it's probably a pretty good thing that I offer my opinions on things such as this.

ill give someone else cuba, although i know more than most about cuban baseball.

ill also consider myself the european baseball genius as too. Alex Liddi is the next big thing. It's too bad that Maestri will probably never make it.
