I can't speak for everyone, but I've been on top of the free agency period this NFL offseason (last season as well) primarily through Twitter. I don't have cable television (ergo I don't have ESPN) but I don't need it because I can find out through Twitter what's happening the very instant Adam Schefter / Chris Mortensen / Ed Werder / Jay Glazer / etc. tweets a new story, rather than having to wait for any one of them to produce a dedicated TV spot, ESPN BottomLine update, or a blog post. Internet media outlets such as ProFootballTalk even name-check the Twitter accounts of NFL media personalities when citing sources.

Twitter is indeed a legitimate news source if one knows how to use it, and its inclusion in Madden as a news feed feature is by no means superfluous or extraneous. That's not to say that the Twitter feed alone is satisfactory - CCM needs a transaction log in the worst way - but I think it's a legitimate starting point.

Ok, then it should be implemented as you just described, not as the main media source in-game. It's cool to get the faux Twitter stuff sent to gamers through their phones and even in-game as a quick update on things but not as THE media focal point. Like you just stated, other places cite Twitter as sources but that's used to compliment a much more elaborate presentation of info.

I get the sense in Madden that Tiburon is looking to have Twitter be the main media focal point instead of the compliment it is in real life. That would kind of explain the oversight in not having a transaction log and not implementing a bottom line ticker for CCM like NCAA 13 has for its' Dynasty. They could be focusing too hard on Twitter as the new age "newspaper"/Tony Bruno Show of old, when that's not what Twitter is realistically designed to account for. Twitter is what it is but it's not some media replacement for more in-depth NFL info, like around the league programs, tickers, team based and other websites, etc.

LOL! I know we're not about to get any significantly big news on Madden yet and whatever we get is either very vague or minor at this point, but wow lol. A pointless feature gets a pointless addition.

Maybe they'll bring a uni creator or something? Other than that, I can't think of a reason. Hopefully they add about ten more new tweeters that cover more of the league.

Eh, this news isn't for me, but I'm not about to pooh-pah it because I'm sure there are people that do enjoy this news, just not for me.

I'll wait till the cover athlete to roll out(sometime in April) before I get too excited.

It's clear to me that EA and I are not even on the same planet when it comes to what should and shouldn't be in a football game. All I can do is laugh with everyone else.

NO ONE finds this news the least bit exciting, or even interesting, except the guy that just got a new job. No one.

Why are people upset about this? EA just added a guy to the twitter feed. I'm sure that this didn't take anything away from all the other new features. Nothing really to get mad about.

I wonder what uniforms they'll intentionally mess up, just to have something to put in the Twitter feed.

I kid, sort of.
