can't seem to throw high jump balls

hi, i've gone to Practice mode and tried throwing short jump ball passes to my 6'7" tight end and no luck.

i've tried pressing up on the right stick (Xbox), i've tried tap passes, bullet passes, and they all end up around his upper chest.

i want to throw a short or intermediate pass up where only a tall player can reach the ball jumping up.

what am i doing wrong? does the game allow high passes only on certain routes?

this is also a problem throwing on post routes or deep slants/drags where a WR or TE is easily 5 - 10 yards behind a linebacker who is maybe 10 yards downfield; in real life a touch pass up high should go over the linebacker and arc down into my target, but i can't do it.

advice is appreciated.

Jump balls are really iffy, mainly because of the terrible WR/TE/DB Interaction.

The one thing I noticed you say though, you said you use the "right stick". The left stick is the one you use for "Total Control Passing". Try that while also tapping whatever receiver you want and see if you get a difference.

sweet baby jesus in a basket... i either a) forgot i tried with the left stick and typed "right" or b) have been using the right stick mistakenly.

considering i know how to lead guys on routes, i'm assuming i was using the left stick and just incorrectly remembered it was the right.

i will confirm again tonight.

can you confirm that you can in fact throw over defenders?

any time i have a defender in front of my guy, even 5 yards in front, he catches the ball.

It's a legacy issue that has never been cleaned up. 1 time out of 10, you'll manage to throw directly over the DB (the DB won't jump-catch), and the ball will land in the hands of the streaking WR. Nine times out of 10, however, the DB will react a million times better than the WR, and catch the ball (assuming decent attributes for both the DB & WR, and difficulty setting). Fade routes are better for a jump ball, but nowhere near as good as they are IRL.

in MUT ive had no problem throwing over a defender, 95 speed boldin has 3 yard seperation and easily gets it 10/10 times when its a good pass, if you do a high bullet pass that can be a problem, but if you just tap the reciever the ball easily goes over the defender.i'm also pretty bad in madden, so this isnt some impossible trick i'm doing.it is sad you cant do high bullet passes for big reievers though.

I'm a pretty good QB overall and I really struggle with this, don't even try anymore really.

On All Pro the DBs(even tho they promised it was gone) react to balls they can't see. DBs locate the ball much faster than WRs and often make a better play on it. Its sad really.

There's no depth in the middle of the field. I never even attempt a pass over a LB if there's a safety within 20 yards. Either the LB will superman jump and pick it off, or the only pass you can actually fit into the window is so friggin slow any decent speed S closes the gap too fast.

Maybe I need to change my sliders. I never notice a WR being particularly faster than a DB, and I never see an elite TE burn LBs in coverage unless its a streak up the seam.

Does anyone have slider suggestions? I'm on All Pro. Also no one on either side seems to break any tackles or make defenders miss in the open field, I'm getting tired of it.

both.

sometimes i want to throw a 20 yarder up the middle over a lb 10 yards out; sometimes i want to lead a tall WR/TE high and away from a nearby defender.
