Wow that's a joke. Although Montana didn't have a huge arm it was arguably stronger than that of Brady's.

The reason he slipped till the third round in the draft was because many scouts questioned his arm strength. Joe Montana was so great because he was one of the most accurate QB's to ever play the game not because he had one of the greatest arms. 87 is more than fair for him.

This. Walsh's offensive scheme fit his accuracy perfectly. Who knows if he would have just as great in a different kind of offense.

Re: Joe Montana 87 THP......Tom Brady 96 THP

"You have to be able to knock the gloves off a receiver...I've trained Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb...and Tom Brady has the strongest arm in the NFL, bar none..."

"What separates Tom from Vick and McNabb is his visual awareness of the field---he knows exactly where to throw and when---and just that split second of superior awareness gives him the extra edge of set-up with his legs. Arm strength, ironically, all comes from the legs. You achieve explosive arm power primarily through setting a strong base with the legs."

That's from Tom Shaw who is the king of QB trainers and has worked with half of the starting QB's in the NFL today and more first round picks than any other trainer over the past 10 years.

In Walsh's west coast offense all he had to do was make short throws and the occasional play-action deep ball. That offense doesn't require you to thread the needle against elaborate and thick down-field coverages which would require a lot of arm strength.

Sounds right, and he's one of my top 3 favorite QBs ever. That wasn't exactly a strength of his so why should it be any higher? Just because he's a legendary hall of famer doesn't me he was perfect. He was never known for his throwing power.

Joe didn't have a strong arm...He could put the ball where it needed to be but he wasn't asked to throw it 40-60 yards like today QB's are....I like Joe Montana but he shouldn't have anything higher than Tom Brady.
