I don't really know what to say about this game. I had issue with the speed of the game, but think I can find some setting I can like. The AI seem to has not really responded to the new engine too well. The game presentation is what seem to be the real saling point to me, since in my opinion the game looks good. I guess overall this just feel like something that should of been a first attempt at a current generation madden.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

Thoughts from a guy who hasn't played much since next gen jump:

I vehemently dislike both next gen football offerings. I play the demos every year and they never get better (I bought Madden 08, and 10, returned both the same week). During the PS2 era I played 5-8 seasons deep on both NCAA and Madden, so when say vehemently dislike, I really, really mean it.

For some reason (Infinity, influx of cash?), I've been really excited about this one.

• The half-time highlight reel is horrible in the demo, all it shows is random scenes and QBs celebrating. What about the three touchdowns the teams scored?

• Running game finally feels good again, although it still doesn't really feel like foot planting is going on. After so much NBA 2K you just expect momentum to have a little more impact on movement.

• In general, this game animates pretty poorly. The videos of the Infinity Engine had me hyped up initially, but seeing it in motion it's a lot of the same old stuff it seems like. Almost half the tackles I saw looked like two players operating independent of each other, these guys just can't wrap their arms around the ball carrier.

• The camera direction during cutscenes/replays is consistently terrible at worst, annoying at best.

• With 58 seconds left the game upheld a game-tying touchdown by the 49ers during which you could clearly see both feet were out of bounds, but the player's hands caught the ball inbounds. Iffy spotting there.

• Commentary isn't very contextual; Simms called me out for running a play on 1st & 10 a minute into the 2nd quarter that didn't get me a first down (it gained 9 yards). Later he said he wasn't sure I made the right decision to bring in my kicker to hit a 28 yard game-winning field goal with 11 seconds remaining and no timeouts.

...All that being said, I did have a lot of fun with the game. It's the first time in this generation that I can remember where it felt right playing FS the way I always used to on PS2. The crowd and annoucing team acted like nothing extraordinary was happening, but I ran an 81-yard drive with David Carr (Eli Manning's jaw had been broken on the drive just before the 49ers scored that non-TD) that included two 30 yard passes to Hakeem Nicks along the sidelines in just 58 seconds, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat (or overtime). It's the first time I can say I genuinely enjoyed playing a football game in a long while, but I'm still not sure I'd purchase it especially without draft classes this year.

Only complaint I do have is the crazy amount of broken tackles. No where near a game breaker though.

1st off, the game looks amazing. Absolutely beautiful. The crowd audio and the presentation is great from what little I've played the game. Much better than in years past when I could barely even stand playing a half without getting annoyed with the horrible, horrible announcer and the crowd that sounded like they were watching the game in church on a mini-TV they snuck in.

I'm not THAT impressed with the Infinity Engine. Yes, it's a cool addition, but nothing that would make me buy the game on that alone.

I'll keep this short, but overall I think this might be a Madden I'll buy. I was completely not going to get it until I played the demo, and it almost sold me. Almost. I might wait until after I get NHL '13 to get Madden, thanks to the $15 credit I got from Amazon. Plus, by that time the NFL will be in full swing and I'll be obsessing over the Chiefs in full force.

In closing: I can't wait until NCAA and Madden '14. Once they fix the bugs in the IE those two games might be the best football sim games in history. Too bad it's at the end of this gen of consoles. Sounds familiar.

PS: The demo just froze on me. Whoopie.
same here, I have a feeling it's gonna be the next protak. The Running game sucks, my RB was falling every 2 second if it wasn't a big hole. There was no fight in him.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

Now played several games on all pro as all of the teams. I'm certainly enjoying myself. There are still considerable issues. The line play is still inconsistent at best, and it is way too hard to get pressure from the backside. I cant remember a football game where that wasnt a problem though. I very much like the new catch animations, as well as the defensive ai. I feel like there arent as many dropped interceptions as before, and bad deep throws are severely punished. At the very least, I have yet to see a moment that makes me want to throw my controller against the wall. I'll probably get the game. I never cared much about presentation, and I will mostly play online so the bad ai playcalling is a non-issue. Should be fun.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

In Madden 12 I could play on all madden and win most games. I have played two games of the demo on all-pro and am yet to score a point! I think I'm still getting use to it but it does feel very different.

Overall I'm impressed, the Infinity Engine (while not a revolutionary as it has been made out to be) is a welcome addition and makes the gameplay a lot better imo. The WR catching animations are great and running feels more fun than previous years. Also, I found the AI contained me well when I tried to run with RGIII which is good.

The best play I have seen so far was a short run on third down by the CPU, the running back was hit about a yard short and managed to to spin and balance himself with one hand on the ground to gain the extra yard before being tackled. It looked really cool. I've also found big plays to feel more exciting (probably because of the greatly improved crowd noises).

So far my biggest disappointment is the commentary, while it is greatly improved I find Sims and Nantz to be boring and not add much excitement. I was enjoying it more in the second game, however it just wasn't as good as I feel it was made out to be.

This is a plus for me. Bear Down sounded HORRIBLE at any volume. Sounded like a canned version. If they do leave it in they need to do something with the reverb or whatever tools they have to make it sound like a 50,000 seat stadium is singing it rather than a few offtune singers in their soundbooth.

That set aside, I really enjoyed the demo. For some reason I kept thinking of Sony's Gameday back in the PS days (that's a good thing.) Between the PS3 demo and the Vita demo, EA locked in $90 worth of sales from me today.
