Re: Madden NFL 13 CCM Will Not Allow You to Play Other Games on the Schedule, Only Yo

Let me preface this by first saying that in no way, shape or form am I condoning the removal of features. Trust me, I've been victimized by a lot more than just removal of features as an avid football gaming enthusiast. I completely understand it.

That being said, let's be reasonable about something here. I am strictly an online guy. I do not care for random head to head or play now, but I do care about playing humans in my own personal community (online league and head to head). I've been friends with a relatively large group of guys for a long while who enjoy playing against each other in a league and head to head. We all follow the rules set forth and it makes for a very enjoyable experience.

I realize you guys want to make this an "offline" vs. "online" thing. Yes - the numbers on OS were staggeringly lopsided in favor of "offline". However, let me tell you, EVERYTHING is headed in an online direction. It has been for a long time. People enjoy playing games with other gamers. EA is not forcing you into this direction, but they are embracing the direction of where the technology is going. Outside of OS, a lot more gamers are playing online. They want to be able to manage leagues/franchises from their device, do drafts from their phone or pick up free agents when they are at work. They want to interact with friends and give them **** about a bad draft choice or a steal in free agency, etc. etc.

You guys who are turning this into a battle between online and offline are missing the boat completely. It's not an "us" vs. "them". EA designed their modes wrong from the beginning, and did not leave the flexibility to easily support online capability in their franchise mode. It required 2 rewrites. One was to add online franchise on the server side (madden 10). Then they realized changing code in 3 different places was not sustainable (they were right by the way). Then they did it again with CCM. The idea that they "removed" certain features just to cater to the online crowd is not correct. I realize that's what it seems like, but it's not. I am no EA apologist and I am not at all a fan of Tiburon, but I am able to be objective. This mode rewrite was something that should have been done years ago, and it should have been released complete (without removing features). However, it is the right way to go. Other games are already way past these issues, but Tiburon has wasted 7 years of this console generation and produced a lot of bad products with Madden releases. We've seen 3 different "leadership" changes, 3 different marketing campaigns and a whole slew of incomplete, bug ridden, arcade football games. This was the first thing they've done this generation that was actually the right line of thinking. They did not really "remove" those features per se. They will undoubtedly return next year. This does not make it easier to swallow, nor does it justify doing it. I'm just trying to shed a little reasoning here on the subject.

So please, those of you who keep bashing the online folks because you feel like they should matter less than you, you are not helping anything and you aren't really correct either. You can go to a bunch of other sites out there that cater more to the online sports gamer and your poll would be completely reversed. The fact remains that people who choose to play offline or online should not be alienated from the game depending on which mode they prefer to play. That being said, you are going to see more and more online capabilities added to sports games, because that is where the technology is headed. This doesn't mean it has to change the way you play the game. Online is not synonymous with "league" or "cheeser" like many of you think. It's more affiliated phrases and words like "sharing, accessing and joining up".

Just food for thought...

The real problem is people who thought they were getting bashed and then turn around to bash said other person. A focused read will prove most everyone is just bashing the game and/or developer decisions first and foremost, and that misreading posts is leading to the hate.

I was with you till this part....reread that to yourself and then ask yourself does this site "cater"...to a specific madden gamer?

On a side note that was one of the most oxymoronic statements I've ever read. I like vanilla ice cream, I post at a forums specifically for vanilla ice cream in a sugar cone...poll: do you prefer sugar cones 90% says yes... that how your statement reads.

If this site doesn't cater to a specific madden player type; I contend it's poll is even more relevant because of it's diversity and not as you suggest, biased.

I'm all for online improvements. Those guys have had to wait a long time. I haven't played online since 09 and haven't even paid attention to those improvements. I have been paying attention to the offline portion in terms of game play, customization and depth. I was excited until hearing of the locked offline. That's my and many others only issue. The problem is anyone who isn't all in is seen as whinny little so and so and needs to go suck their thumb in the corner. The squeaky wheel gets the oil

honestly Tre, I'm with you 100% on this here. For me, it's all about gameplay first and foremost. I am, and have been, extremely unhappy about Madden's football on the field for a long time. I'm still waiting for penalties, realistic player movement (still not solved this year), no more zig zag running, a real challenge system, a real pocket and realistic line play.

Those are just a few. It's 2012, another year without all of those. It's sad when I have to put in an unlicensed game that is 5 years old to have all of those things, while the NFL "simulation" does not have them. So trust me, I know all about being frustrated. The fact is, everyone has been affected equally by Tiburon's inability to make a football simulation. It sucks for everyone.

Oh the challenge system...I've been waiting for that forever...and ever! Just to be able to directly challenge what I KNOW needs to be challenged in a play.

I agree with this...somewhat.

I even suggested this in another post, although not as eloquently as you have here. There are certain things available in offline franchise (e.g. the ability to edit players, the ability to manage/run more than 1 team, the ability to import NCAA players) that do not fit into an online league because people would completely abuse them. When EA realized they didn't have time to figure out how to sort this out, they basically said, "Well, let's leave it until next year."

Or at least I hope so.

That said, if things are indeed moving online (which I agree with) then I don't think it's a total stretch to think that a game producer would indeed eliminate some of those things available in offline play. Thanks to the wonder of microtransactions, online play has the potential to be a significant revenue-maker. It wouldn't be the first time a company (video game or otherwise) eschewed one consumer group in order ro drive profit margins.

That's the conspiracy theorist in me. I hope like crazy I'm wrong and that these things will be in Madden in the future.

You're not wrong, but this is not something new that the Madden team has been doing. It just so happens that many of the people who post on this site finally got hit with a bullet that greatly affects what they care about in the game. THose of us who have been upset over football fundamentals in gameplay for a long time have been going through this exact same thing. IN order to get the revenue from the tourney/freestyle/arcade fans, they have continued to hold out on making the game more realistic. It takes FOREVER to get a single thing implemented. Even this year - the physics engine work was done by a completely separate team from central gameplay. So with a doubled gameplay team, we basically got new animations and passing trajectories. Really? Where are all of the other things? I still see the zig zag running, the poor line play, the crappy challenge system, penalties broken, etc. just to name a few.
