Re: Five Things EA Sports must do for Success in Madden NFL 13

1) Madden presentation still sucks and they really need too upgrade this. Even though the broadcast cams and intros where nice, it's very boring after a few games played. maybe u guys at EA needs to talk with FOX or CBS about stats displayed and a decent halftime show. Since u took the EXTRA POINT out for 12 and said u would upgrade it, then Madden13 should have a nice halftime package.
2) Penalties: Can u explain EA why there is no offensive pass interference and defensive pass inteference once in 5-10 games? Also u are missing a bunch of NFL Penalties, so u are not true too the game with that.
3) Double-team pass blocking: Can we please get real double-team pass blocking and not just the touching of a offensive lineman in the direction of the DT or DE and just standing there looking stupid afterward. Have them engaging.
4) Please stop having the WR/CB mirror each other when they go for the ball. Can we get a fight for position and attempts too possess the football. The interactions is terrible and needs too be fixed.
5) challenge system is horrible, we need to have a choice on what is being challenge. Replays need too fully play out and not be cut off as well, I have said this for years, Madden seems too always rush replays and other presentation elements. Let them play out and slow the flow of the game.

7 years and counting, can somebody get it close too right over there, how long too we have to wait for a fundamentally sound football game from EA?

good posts and ideas from everybody. But i suspect that this time next year, there will be another post with the exact same ideas. No way will any of this make it into the game. EA is way too fat and happy right now to expend resources to fix a game that they dont believe is broken. remember, the average casual fan thinks this game is fantastic as it is.

In the past (05' - 08') when you selected a "Smart Route" it was just that, your WR ran a "built in" option route and based upon what he saw or rather thought he saw. On this gen a "Smart Route" is similarly chosen but is decided upon BEFORE the play. Meaning if I show blitz the guy will run a fly route or a slant (good job). But if 2.5 sec later I back off and play insanely deep. Genius boy will run straight down the field and expect a pass to come his way. Unless you were lucky and he choose to run a slant from the start.

IF M13 was to implement a feature where all routes were "smart" and say when in bump and run if the WR dispaches the DB he takes off down the field or where if Vick rolls out to the right his WR's will come to him and "Get friendly with the QB" as opposed to staying on the opposite side where they'll never get the ball. It would go along way towards making the game feel more real, while making the game also slightly "Easier" for the casual gamers as they would feel their ai teammates on the field are trying to help them. While making the game Harder for us. Why? Try picking your "nano blitz" 8 times in a row, and watch every WR start making Wes Welker style plays. 4 steps, cut, catch, run, run far, run very far, score.

It would also make the field seem larger as (depending on Awr. Hey look awareness will actually do something for WR's again!) They'll be more prone to "breaking off"' their scripted route, and likely to do something useful. Like taking off down the sideline when the CB sllips on snow, not running across the middle to the MLB waiting to knock down a pass35 yds downfield that he shouldn't be able to touch.

And will give value and a reason to sign an aging WR like Hines Ward or T.O. Becasue unlike rookies they'll know when to try to make a play.
Not sure I'm cool with the idea of letting some programmers make decisions that screw with how my routes are run. I already make all the decisions you mentioned using tools already in the game.

Redirect receviers - Press L2/LT and flick the right stick in any direction and the nearest receiver will run as instructed.

Lead Passes & User Catch - By leading a pass to an area away from the defender, a receiver who's route would take him directly into a hit can be lead him away from the hit and to an area that allows him to catch and run.

Hot Routes & Blocks - After a blitz read, in addition to hot routing backs for better protection, we can shorten a post to a slant, a slant t a drag, a streak to a hook, etc. Experienced Madden players make these adjustments regularly as part of their base protection package.

That said - I'd like to see receivers stop and sit in the holes of a zone instead of running straight into hits ALL the time. Those horizontal routes have their merit at times to decoy defenders out of one area while attacking another, but we need a way to tell a receiver to "sit" sometimes and keep running at others.

What good is a great mid-air collision if guys don't even recognize who's on their own team?

No wonder the DB's are laying out their own guys.

Yes but one engine atleast offers the ability for these events to take place. Now it just needs the right programming to be entered , so it can occur properly.

Don't you think that is a start?

I'm more concerned about the football that leads to and produces the collision than whether its pretty or not. I'd prefer stick figures playing good football than any players, real or otherwise, playing bad football.

I need a game that is more about the football than watching people fall down.
