Snugs 4wr Defense?

Anybody have any suggestions on defending this? Most of the people I've come across try to throw the corner right to the slot receiver .

I have tried dime slot man, cover 2(every formation) and cover 2 sink, but they always seem to get beat.

Man under doesn't seem to work either.

try using your zone audibles, and by that i mean the zone to sidelines, zone to middle, zone to left, and zone to right. they are under the coverage audibles, and are activated with the right stick. once you learn how to do it, you should be doing it every play

Your defensive choices have put you uniquely in a bind because the Snugs 4WR formations (Single Back and Shotgun) attack standard 2 Deep safeties. The spacing of the formation leaves space at the corners, and provides your opponent with an easy coverage read when the defense lines up.

To defeat this formation/tactic you will need to change something in your defenses to widen your coverage. Your safeties will setup about midway between the numbers and the hashes... You need them playing closer to the numbers to take away a corner route. Use the coverage audible to send the safeties toward the sideline (Triangle/Y + UP on Right Stick).

That's only PART of what you'll need to do to take away the corner routes... I recommend that you use a cover 3 shell instead of cover 2. If you want opponents to see a Man look, call man and audible to cover 3 at the line.

Start here, and tell us how well it worked.

Re: Snugs 4wr Defense?

I've faced a very similar tactic, but out of a 5 wide bunch set. The issue is that people that do this tactic, or at least ones that do it effectively, run more than 1 WR over to the side where they are passing the corner route, clearing any defenders playing zone. Ex: Against cover 3 you just have your outside WR run a fly pattern and your inside WR run the corner.

The other issue that I've faced is that its not a true 45 degree corner. Its kind of inbetween a corner route and an out route. That route is extremely effective and gets under the cover 3 zone, at least unless you have a great zone cover corner.

I've had most of my success usering my defenders to get picks. The only issue, is that then they run the play on both sides of the field.

i'm telling you, zone your defenders. if you know he his going to do this to the strongside, and your playing cover 3. zone your defenders to the strongside. your middle safety will play over the top of the strongside. your cb on that side will play a lot closer on the sideline, jumping any route that side. he will be in great position to stop those corner routes. curls that are usually open on these types of plays, will be covered on that side. although they will be a lot more open on the other side.

IMO, we should user defend everything... it's the only way to be sure that your defenders do what you want. It's easier to accept bad defense if I screw up the play than if the CPU screws it up. I always switch to defend (if needed).

That said, the Streak/Corner route combination requires a Deep Third zone with a Buzz Zone underneath. If there's no receiver in the flat, don't bother covering it. Buzz that curl defender instead.

If there is a flat, corner, streak combo... Use a CLOUD coverage which has a flat, buzz, and a deep zone.

Also, don't underestimate the value of customizing your coverages to attack your opponent. If they want man, give it to them, but zone the areas they throw the ball.

A man defenders with a buzz defender will certainly take the corner route away (setting you up for something else).

Re: Snugs 4wr Defense?

What I do every single play.
Spread the Zones (up on the dpad, up on the right stick)

I usually run cover 3 nowadays, I used to only run Man, I stick with man against online opponents though.
Man is the best way to stop post/corners/curls/drags/slants etc
And I can tell you how.

You have to pick up your opponents tendencies, I learned how to do this because I was tired of the computer running stick routes to the TE/slot WR.

Ok, say they are running a default snugs flipped Corner route, you want to identify who is running the corner route, and man him up (if you want to run zone).

Go to your coverage audibles, individual coverages, and you will see these options
Press, Back off, Shade Left, Shade Right.

If the WR is on the right side, and running a corner to the right, you would want to shade right, and vice versa on the left.

Other helpful hints using shade.

Backing off and shading to the opposite side to get inside leverage will stop slants, posts, in routes, and curls

Doing nothing but shading the opposite will stop drags.

Pressing and shading the same side is a good way to disable flat routes, sticks, picks, etc.

Go with your instincts, and shade every play using man.

Oh, also, if your opponent keeps running TE streaks, just shade for inside leverage, unless he likes to throw out towards the sidelines, then shade the same side. Most people will throw the ball towards the right side, due to handiness, so you should mainly shade right on those streaks.
