A trick I noticed as far as Formation Subs go.....

As you all prolly know, you can do formation sups in game, and they stick after the game is over. I noticed something that is kinda a glitch, but it could be useful.

Some teams will sometimes sub a defensive player into an offensive position, kinda like William Perry playing fullback for the 85 bears. The Detroit Lions did this some years back with Chris Spielman playing fullback. There had been talk of the Lions using Ndamukong Suh at fullback in goal line situations.

This isn't possible in Maddon....or is it?

In fact it is. but it takes a bit of editing.

What you need to do, is first edit a player to the position you want him to be subbed in (IE Suh to a FB) I know this will delete the player roles, but that isn't avoidable.

Now, start a game, and make the formation sub. Run a couple plays, then quit the game, and go back to the franchise menu. Save your franchise, and profile.

Now, edit the player back to his original position, and adjust your depth chart.

Now when you go back into the game, the formation sub will stick, but your player will be back at his normal position on the depth chart.

Pretty cool find. Does it stay like this if you cycle through formation subs or does it revert to the other FB when you change the sub?

It only keeps that player subbed in where you had him. After you switch his position back, he can only be subbed in positions where he would have been available before. So, sub him into every formation you want him in before changing his position back

I'm glad you discovered this. This is good for getting qb's or former qb's in the wildcat

Yeah I've been doing this since Madden '10 when the new formation subs were added.

Some realistic NFL moves:

Bengals DT Peko played FB in Goal Line situations

Ravens DE Ngata and DT Cody have each played some FB in Gosl Line situations

Patriots RG Dan Connolly plays FB in Goal Line

Patriots used TE Aaron Hernandez as FS in Hail Mary situations

so can you only sub a guy into an entire formation? I cant just sub in a player on certain plays from that formation?

Re: A trick I noticed as far as Formation Subs go.....

what is far more important is that you can sub in backup runningbacks.

So If i'm playing the panthers, giants, cowboys etc
I will sub in the backup runningback in some formations.

this way when I play against them I actually experience a runningback by committee, as I still havent been able to effectively get the CPU to sub in a backup RB any other way.

It also works nicely to put some WRs in the slot or TEs out wide, just to mix things up when you play against the CPu.

Probably a stupid question, but how can I switch between RBs in a play during a game (and not going to the depth chart)? XBox controls, that is.
Thanks
