How do you put your teams together?

When taking over a team as chise, how do you build a winner. Excluding unrealistic stuff like trading half the team for Brady etc.

I like to let the current setup of the team dictate how I make moves (ie. If I'm the Ravens and the D is already good, I'll work on the other side of the ball through the draft and maybe trading a position of surplus to get another player - two 80+ Guards so I trade one to get a WR or something like that).

Some players like to gut teams and start from scratch trading away guys for draft choices.

Some like to keep building on the strength. Take a great offense and make it unstoppable by adding a great player where they only have a decent one.

Re: How do you put your teams together?

Well the pats dont need alot done to them in madden. but my plans are fairly basic. Im going to hope they have the picks accurate( like pats have saints 1st and raiders 2nd, hc had it like this so im assuming this madden will be the same), otherwise all just do a few trades to get those picks, and then trade those players back to their real teams.

My focus will be building a massive dline, and devlope jermaine cunningham into a big name pass rusher. I will probaly trade ty warren for any picks I can get for him. I will also develope ron brace into a solid 5 tech if I can.

If I sign any free agents it will probaly be matt roth or jasin babin.

My key in the 2011 draft will be trading up to get a pass rusher, if I dont sign roth or babin, otherwise I will probaly just stick arround and draft the best player avalible.

anyways those are my basic plans for now

Best way to fix the pick issue is to trade the best player who is in the final year of a deal from each of those teams to the Pats before you start the franchise and then trade them to their original teams for the picks that need to be moved.

By using players in the last year of their deals you avoid taking large cap hits for the remainder of their signing bonuses.

I like to start from scratch, and I usually go for interior lineman, as I feel they are the spinal cord of a team.

Then a shut down Cb,and then a QB. After that I go for the next best player at a position that I have not filled yet.

Re: How do you put your teams together?

I always work on defense first. Being a Bengals fan, the AFC North has made me love strong defenses and a great running game.

So i start with the safeties as I mostly play with them. Then defensive lineman on to the backs. I try to get a good run stopping d. If I can shut that down, im usually good.

For the offense, same concept. I get a 2 back set up (speed and power) and run the ball like crazy. Then lineman followed by outside weapons.

I try to build through the draft/FA, but will occasionally make trades if I can find a realistic one. I'm not big on speed like everyone else is. I dont necessarily need speed with my gameplan. I control the clock so I move a few yards at a time and have longer drives.

ya that works really well, and if their are no players of that value i will release them before franchise mode, sign them to a big 1 year bonusless deal and then trade them back to their team, luckly nnamdi had no bonus last year so it was easy to get oaklands 1st

Also, it just hit me. With the ability to edit players within the franchise mode this year, you could use the most tradable contract (UDFA at the minimum) regardless of what pick you could get in return and then edit them up to worth a 1st or 2nd round pick, editing them back to their original ratings after completing the trade.

Re: How do you put your teams together?

A good tip to rebuild a franchise is to trade down in the draft ala the Pats in this years. Its crazy how many picks you can accumulate through trading down when you are on the clock.

Next year, this technique will be a LOT more valuable. Due to '11's lack of CPU trades, usually the draft is composed of each CPU team with one pick in each round (with the exception of user trades, etc.). In '12, there is supposed be more trading going on- so hopefully the picks will be more jumbled. Therefore having the ability to accumulate picks that are possibly in the same round (ex. 13th overall pick for 24th, 36th, and 43rd)..Not those spots in particular, just an example..
