Playing out of position mess up player progression?

hey all. posted in wrong forum at first but i'm in the right place now i think.
I've heard playing guys out of position will have a negative effect on player progression. Is this true?

For example if I have a 90 A potential corner that I play at SS will he progress more slowly since he's playing at a different position?

There are a few changes I'd like to make on my depth chart but i'm wary of how this will effect players ratings going up(it's an online franchise)

Re: Playing out of position mess up player progression?

Here are the things that matter for player progression:

How many snaps the player took / How many games the player started (this is related to their overall at the position)

Amount of time in the league

How far away the player is from their potential --- I don't think higher potential guys progress faster, they just go to a higher limit. I've seen plenty of C / B potentials increase 6 /7 / 8 points per off season

What the players position is when you progress

Player progression is always done after the season ends. If a CB plays SS it doesn't matter, or visa versa. It just means instead of progressing for man coverage press coverage zone coverage and catch (and a few other things) they'll progress more for tackle, power of hit, and maybe block shedding. If you want a CB that can hit, do this. If you want a line backer that can shed blocks better, progress them as a defensive end. If you have a 95 rated player - regardless of position, and switch them to something much lower, say a 95 rated DE switched to CB, they'll progress in the new position, regardless of what they did the previous year.

There are exceptions to this, this is the short hand version. Try it around yourself. Make a save after the superbowl but before the offseason and try switching some players positions.
