Give EA Some Credit.

Sorry guys but I am getting tired of all the negativity on these boards this season so far. All the complaints about defense, offense and money plays. Seems like the same people every year complaining about the same thing.
Just think for a moment about how big of a task making a football sim video game is. How many things move on every frame of video. Then throw in all the logic involved for every player. It ends up being a momentous task.
I am not saying this game is perfect, but I do believe every year when you look at the big overall picture it gets closer.
Strategy pad, got used to now love it, Game Flow, made a lot of different game plans now use it, even think it might be interesting to make it mandatory for some form of online play to try and battle the cheese plays.
Defense impossible, I don't think so. Hard yes I have been getting some shut outs lately even on heisman but this is being addressed soon by EA.
Online franchise mode not changed this year, everyone knew before they bought this game that online franchise would not be updated till next year so lets quit complaining about it please. I could keep going on here but really need to get off the soap box. Just want to thank EA for their continued hard work in developing a quality game.

So Please lets post some things you like about this game and enjoy.

Re: Give EA Some Credit.

Well, I go into every new sports title with the philosophy that it's basically a demo until the first patch is released, then I'm more open to criticisms.

Should it be that way? No, but it's today's reality.

I can completely understand complaints by those who have been asking for something for five years, or who dislike that favorably-viewed elements have been removed.

All in all, not a huge deal. I like reading opinions on gameplay, and I'm glad OS provides a forum for that.

I agree with this part of your post 100%.

Now-a-days when any game comes out (sports game or not) I almost never buy it on release day.

I always wait to read up on game-play flaws or bugs, and if and when a patch might come.

Games are so expensive, I'm a big fan of on-line forums and game-fly research before plopping down $60 for a title.

Very rarely do I trust a gaming company right away to buy something without reading up first. (Maybe Bethesda... the makers of Fallout3 and Oblivion.)

For example I didn't buy Madden 11 until reading Ian's blog on the upcoming patch. Also I avoided MLB 2K10 all-together last year due to its bugs. Which breaks my heart as a baseball fan since I have no PS3 and cant buy The Show.

Better safe than sorry!

Re: Give EA Some Credit.

I'll give credit where credit is due and while Madden '11 isn't a huge departure from last year there are some things done well. I've actually had the most fun with this installment of Madden than any other.

That said I don't think a lot of the disappointment and frustration you're hearing isn't unwarranted. I for one feel like a Cubs fan every year I pick up Madden. After I play it I always say to my self, "there's always next year." Then when next year comes I find features have either been unchanged or taken out of the game entirely. Plus I have a hard time understanding how games like NHL and NCAA are light years ahead of Madden...

Anyways, I'm going to enjoy Madden this year regardless of it's short comings and I guess I'll be waiting for next year.

Re: Give EA Some Credit.

All I have to say is play NHL, MLB the Show, FIFA, and NBA 2k.

Madden is years behind these games. I just don't think Tiburon can hack it anymore. The Tiger Woods series also took a nosedive from the last generation.

A lot of people like to cite the exclusive license, and they don't HAVE to do anything. There's no NHL 2k11 this year, and NHL 11 took a nice jump this year. MLB 2k series isn't any real competition to The Show, but that doesn't stop SCEA from improving a quality game every year.

So will I give them some credit? No. The Madden series is FAR behind other sports games. Nothing short of changing developers will change that.

everything that you mentioned should not be an issue.

they have been developing the series for 6 years this gen and 20 years total and the game still feels incomplete. ..that's pretty sad.

football games have been done better than the madden series of this gen by both EA and other companies. if you ask me the madden team deserves the heat they get.

Re: Give EA Some Credit.

The numerous non-gameplay issues (Franchise Mode & Superstar) are enough to give EA little to none credit. The issues are consistent throughout this entire generation of consoles. Give me back owners box so I can charge 10 dollars a hot dog please.
