If we had better defensive playbooks, we wouldn't have to make so many changes at the line.
BINGO!!!! Couldn't agree more. If the game was built around and focused on the game of football and less on BS stuff like 3 on 3, locomation which really is only there to help hide the awful animation system, etc...
we'd have some of the issues resolved.

That's why I'm not downing those that want to use the old way if it's faster for them to get adjustments done. I just choose not to redesign at line as it just doesn't seem right..

This thread seems to be mostly grumblings with a few people talking about how they enjoy the game, with hardly anyone talking about how great it is. The biggest compliment I'm seeing is the game is enjoyable or good. I wonder if this bodes ill for Madden sales this year. I know this is a small sampling but it held true for NCAA (reviews here were mostly positive and the game has outsold what EA expected) so you never know.
NCAA really has alot of problems game play is horrible also
i rather play madden but both have issues NCAA more than madden

I don't know why I'm always compelled to answer back these posts but:
NLF2K was not ever and will never be, the best FB game made. Money corner routes, awkward running etc...

I LOVED 2K and bought 2 copies it's last year and still own all the versions. It wasn't the greatness it has grown to be in peoples minds, period.

Was it a good game? Of course. Worth still playing vs games of today. Not for me....

If that's what you choose though. Have fun..

Also I think the door for disappointment every year is more open with Madden than NCAA due partly to the fact that the hype machine and press that surrounds Madden is much much greater than that of NCAA. Its kind of like when Dwayne Wade was drafted and those years he didnt win a championship, people werent that passionate about it compared to Lebron James not winning championships. One player coming into the league was clearly hyped up more than the other, therefore the public's standards and expectations where greater on one vs the other.

Right on point. I think some people mistake the presentation and polish off those sorts of things for the actual game itself...but if you are simply talking in the area of graphics and presentation for a FB game in 2005, the difference is about as wide as the Grand Canyon.

With regards to stratpad. I'm all for limiting the ability of users to use exploits, but people will figure out how to do them anyway. I agree with the comments concerning the limits of the defensive play book. I may want to use a certain defensive play, but I want press coverage on the outside. Maybe I need a certain player double teamed and I don't want to use the two or three canned plays available.

Also, the real NFL may not utilize that level of customization presnap, but the real NFL has 11 individual thinking players. They know intuitively how to adjust if a running back gets put into motion to the outside. In Madden, you must direct your team appropriately.

I remember when madden first switched to team specific playbooks way back when... I thought itd be horrible, lol. I remember that when I complain about changes before giving them a chance lol... I'm excited but still not a first day purchase for me. Is it for you?
Sorry to get back to you on this so late, but right now I'll probably only have the funds for one game in the next month and I won't be done with my first season of NCAA to get my draft class for a franchise. So right now it isn't becuase I have no interst in playing online a lot and I'm already having fun with NCAA. I think I'm just gonna go buy starcraft instead. Madden can wait this year. I will definently enjoy it though if all the teams do play like themselves with their improved playcalling.
